Hi All,
I bought Phantom 3 standard yesterday & want to check whether motors working or not. I did all callibration & when about to take off  message appears on screen saying"GPS not connected " & motor doesn't starts. Pls help me to get it resolved.

That sounds like the GPS module on the main board inside the aircraft is either faulty or has come out of its socket. You may be able to get it fixed locally, but it might also need to go back to DJI.

I had contacted DJI dealer. He is sending service guy to check the unit. Let's see what happens.

Phantom 3 standard required to update firmware?

The current firmware version for the Phantom 3 Standard is 1.6.8. If your firmware is earlier than this, you'll receive an upgrade notice from the app. But this GPS issue is not related to the firmware.
