Does someone know how large the area is that these two apps can cache?

I'm interested in this because when I'm in a foreign country and have no mobile access I'd like to have the local map(s) available. Until now I haven't found an easy way to get this done and could not find out how to cache a larger area.

There's no simple answer as it will depend on the combination of the area and what level of detail you want.
It will come down to how much space the app allocates for cached files.
I haven't seen any numbers but you could experiment to find out.
