I have been working with a construction company, buildin an expansion next to a prison. Imagine my surprise this morning when I began my monthly geo map flight when the whole area turned red, no fly zone. Is there a path to work this out? The construction company is not happy.


On another topic, is there a link showing steps in unlocking yellow and green zones? Tried the DJI website but it was not helpful. Thanks for any help.

Thanks for sharing I get it maybe some type of  short  term exemption for your  Proof of contract with business address location
That would Just make to much sense.

FlySafe will get you back on track to have the zone unlocked again. I'm unsure whether you would need to resubmit any paperwork, but it should be more streamlined since you had permissions prior to the update.

NO. I never had DJI permission. I was working this job regularly w/o any red zone warning until today. I just updated to DJI GO 2.8.4, then got the red zone...

I'm not 100% positive but I believe prisons are one of the no fly zones you can't get clearance on. DJI might have done you a favor and avoided some prison guard shooting your bird out of the sky thinking it was part of a contraband delivery system.

Then you would need to submit paperwork showing that you have permission to fly within the vacinity of the prison. There is some other basic information that the FlySafe team will ask for, but you should get up and running quickly if you get in contact with them as soon as possible.

I am not some kid with a Phantom, but a licensed commercial pilot with a 333. (and a retired chief of police, to boot). I worked through the construction company, they hired me, and have the warden's approval.

This is Arizona , the guards would have turned my bird into white mist the first time I tried it w/o authorization!!

Do you have the Geo System enabled via the General Settings? Are these screenshots taken with the aircraft on? The NFZs should appear when the unit is connected to the app.

I can only see the nearest NFZ in my city, but when I slide the map over to metro Phoenix with lots of NFZ can't see a single one (?)

The regular Fly Safe section unfortunately has an outdated map. You would refer to the Geo System's section in order to get the correct map:

I believe the correctional facility you are around is present as a NFZ based on the picture you provided.

I'm still puzzled why I can only see my local airport red NFZ (in DJI GO) but not the ones in and around the Phoenix metro area (over half a dozen controlled airports.) Does the bird have to be within a certain distance from the NFZ to see it in the app?

Yes, you do need to be closer in order to see the NFZ in the DJI Go app. You should be able to see NFZ indicators at around a 5 mile radius from your current location if you have an active internet connection.

I'm sure the authorities would be really nice to you if there was an incident and they found your aircraft had been tampered with.
Have you seen the FAA fines and penalties, I bet if anything were to ever happen and you had an accident you'd be on the maximum side of the penalties. is it really worth it ?
