I've seen people taking portrait pictures on Instagram in high quality with the Phantom 3 and would like to do the same. As it is, mine are coming out as landscapes and zooming in on Instagram reduces quality. Any ideas?

There is no way to take a single frame portrait format shot.
The Phantom camera is locked in landscape orientation.

yes! the only way you can make a portrait oritentation would be to crop the landscape photo that you took. There are lots of apps you can crop a photo with. I personally use snapseed which is an amazing photo editor app for both ios and android.
