Will a small parachute comes into considiration? an emergency imployment upon falling or by user intervention can prevent lot (or all) of the crashes users enocounter, it ain't a new technology just upon testing but I heard it being avavilbe for some drones already..

DJI had made a Drop Box that could be used with larger units in the past, however, it can take considerable amount of height for parachutes to really reduce any velocity.
