Hey guys

Has any1 had this problem that after the update and after I had done my IMU and compass calibration that when it came to starting up the aircraft it comes with an "ESC error. Restart Aircraft. Contact DJI....". After afew occasions it showed the same message, then at last it went away. Didn't want to fly incase it could become a problem in flight. So what are your thoughts and is there a fix to this if it does it again.

If this is an intermittent issue, have you tried an IMU calibration or reapplying the firmware?

Hi Jamie

It seems to be a consistent problem and have done the IMU calibration and haven't tried to re-apply the firmware. I cant see any problems with the log file either. Can I downgrade the firmware back to 1.8 were I had no issues, if so, do I need to downgrade the remote as well to 1.5?

I had a similar issue with my P3P after upgrading it to the latest firmware and flying successfully with 2 batteries. The error came up when I was ready to fly with the 3rd battery a few minutes later. Nothing could make the error go away. I ended up sending it back to the vendor for repair. They did find a motor /hardware issue which I believe occurred during a hard landing that occurred months ago soon after I bought it. Somehow the latest firmware revealed it. Maybe enhancements to the motor/esc software ? Bottom line it wasn't deemed a warranty issue and I had to pay out of pocket for the repair. Hope yours is not as expensive...

Hello Stephen, you can try to downgrade it to v1.8 fw. But if it doesn't help, it is probably a hardware error and please contact support@dji.com and send it in for repairing.

The thing is I flew a couple of days before with 1.8 firmware..with 3 batteries..no problems...but so as I update the unit to 1.9.1.30 all hell brakes loose....it's like a never ending process with DJI after every new firmware.

No you don't need to downgrade the RC to previous version.

It's a good thing I ask for a second opinion, because the guy I spoke to on live support yesterday, told me I had to downgrade the remote to 1.58 first and then downgrade my bird to 1.8..........now you saying I don't have to...so let me understand this.....my RC is at 1.6 now...I can just downgrade my firmware back to 1.8 and hopefully have no issues with getting into or out of transport mode...

If you do the downgrade the firmware from 1.8 to 1.7, you'll need to downgrade the RC as well. And 1.6 RC firmware is compatible with 1.8 and 1.9 fw.

You would be able to downgrade to 1.8. That same firmware also used the 1.6 RC firmware, so you would not need to downgrade that component.

However, reverting back to a previous FW version is a short temp fix only? It would be useful if DJI provided information on why the new firmware causes a problem and address that? DJI FW upgrades, you are damed if you do and damed if you don't!

There is always a chance that the update had not downloaded properly. Reapplying the update normally alleviates the issue to ensure that it upgraded properly. At this juncture, especially if you have any upcoming jobs that you need the unit for, you can wait to reattempt the update or you can try to update to the latest firmware again.
