When I power up the Phantom 2v+ v3.0, it of course goes through its system check and then  flashes yellow while locking on the satellites.  Once it has found over 6 or so, it flashes green, and also does the quick green flash to signify locking onto the new home point.

Now... before I fly, i still flip the v2 switch and make double sure my home point is set by seeing the fast green pulse a second time and then I calibrate my compass.  My question is... is this overkill and unnecessary to set it a second time?  With some of the scare stories, I guess I have been double sure its set but I was curious if I'm being paranoid for no reason once it locks on the first time.  Thanks in advance.

No, it's not necessary. But, you're not hurting anything by doing this either. (Other than maybe wearing out your S2 switch faster.)

You can calibrate your compass at any time you want before takeoff.

Gerry1124, correct. We're talking about marking the home point though.

Once you have home lock with 6 sats, you have it.  When you toggle the switch to get compass calibration, you are in that system.  Once you have done the calibration, it reverts back to the home point.

I do the compass calibration as soon as I turn on the Phantom and toggle the switch.
