You're correct, the handles are the same.

The battery in the osmo+ is larger in its mAH capacity

As far as I know, you can buy the x3 zoom camera directly from dji and attach it to your old osmo.  No modification needed.

the handle is the same...u just need to buy the X3 ZOOM gimbal n camera...ur osmo will become the osmo+..that's what i did..n i really enjoy the new function osmo+ has
