I typically download my photo and video files to my computer and delete them from the memory card after every mission.  I save my files to the computer by date.  Today, for the first time, I had over 1000 files on the memory card and instead of the count going from Dji0999 to Dji1000, an additional directory was created by DJI go, where the file numbering sequeance started at Dji0001.  This additional folder slowed the computer download process to a crawl due to repeated filenames between directories.  I would have expected the numbering to go Dji1000, Dji1001, Dji1002 ... Dji9999.  Why would the file name limit be 999 and not 9999 ????  I could not find an explaination for this in the manual.

which DJi do you have ? I have a P4 and new july 1st and only got 89 video's number 0089, I would like to know the answer to this myself !  lol

There is no explanation.
It's just the way it is.
DJI had a 9999 limit for the P2V+ but for some reason only they know they set the P3 to 999.
Downloading photos doesn't take very long if you simply pull the SD card and copy across to your computer with an adapter.
It's much faster and simpler than downloading from the Phantom.

It's just how DJI chose to set the naming convention, but it can be contributed to the limitations of a FAT32 format. The best course of action would be to transfer the files to your computer at your earliest convenience.

Jamie, please, where is set up for the naming does not go from DJI001 every time but goes at least to 999? I seen the advice somewhere on youtube but can't find it now....

Look in the app settings for File Index Mode.
The options are Continuous and Reset.
You want continuous so the numbering continues rather than reseting every flight.

You will find the file setting in the camera menu.

open DJI go app on your iPad if ios, click the menu for the camera, click the tool symbol, scroll down to file index mode, choose "continuous"
that's where its at !

As a workaround, PC user has to create multiple folders with relevant titles or rename hundreds of files manually.

Personally I connect SD card to PC, create a new folder on the card named by date (eg 20161029, done this way so files are listed in correct date order), move all files into new folder, then move new folder on to computer.

I use the windows free app...Bulk Rename Utility, super fast and great search and replace using  regular expression functions.
