It looks like something I should have.

I just bought my first drone last week (P3A), and now this comes out.  WTH

Preordering the Mavic, regardless.  I've had way too much fun learning to fly since I got the P3 so I know I'll love this - will be great for flying indoors as well when winter comes. Worst case I can just sell the P3A on Craigslist for most of what I paid for it, as I got it $150 cheaper than most places in the first place.

Yes, all current intelligent flight controls will be there plus additional features like Tripod, Terrain Follow, Gestures, etc. And it will probably have GEO as well

Hi bud hope your well, I have a question about the Mavic pro,a question that a lot of potential users (inc myself) are wanting to know.

Does/will the RC have a holder for tablets such as iPad/android tablets ?  Based on what I've seen and read the info/specs only smartphones are compatible devices.

The mavic pro is definitely an attractive option and competively priced as well,currently priced at £999 which was is same price as a p4 in UK. Although the mavic pro taking it to a whole new level and then some.

No it will not hold an iPad. The max length of your device can't be more than 160mm. This thing is made for portability
I'm sure someone will create a mount to go in the holder so your iPad can attach. But if there's not something strapping it to the actual RC, I'd be scared of the mount clamps spreading out some and your aftermarket mount and iPad fall to the ground.
Plus it would be awkward holding the RC and the iPad under your wrists.

No I do not, the specs are not out yet. I would think an Android with at least 2GB of RAM and an IOS device with an A8 would work fine but we have to wait until they release the recommended devices.

The controller is beautiful. Compact, and the gamer in me is very ready to have (what I expect to be) greater control over the bird.

While we have seen Mavic Pro flights using only a smartphone as well as paired with the controller, how about just the controller itself? Given that the Goggles connect directly to the Mavic, kicking back with the sleek controller and the HMD is a beautiful mental image.

I haven't noticed anyone address this in any hands-on reviews that I've seen so far. It's also unclear whether the controller's display is being fed information from the Go app or whether it's coming from the Mavic itself.

Any guidance?

The controller is very compact and does not feel like a light plastic game controller. It feels very industrial and has good weight to it.
And yes, flying with the RC and DJI goggles with 1080p and less than 120ms latency sounds awesome.
The telemetry is being fed by the aircraft.

Yes, you can and do not need a phone if you don't care about an FPV view.

I pre-ordered the Mavic Pro, and want to understand more from you about the RC.

Is there a way to tie a lanyard to the RC of Mavic Pro?

From my experience on controling my Inspire 1 Pro as well as F3A aerobatic planes, it seems to me it will be quite difficult for us to precisely manipulate the sticks without leaving the weight of the RC plus smartphone to the lanyard. Any suggestion on the way how we can tie a lanyard to the RC of Mavic Pro, Ken?

There is no ring/hook to connect a lanyard, you would have to devise your own.This review has a bunh of photos so you can fully see the RC.

The review from Mark contains a lot of photos. We may be able to utilise the 2 "legs" for tying a lanyard without obstructing our view to the smartphone or obstructing the control sticks.

Mavic Drone Update; apparently the focus works differently on the Mavic.  I played with it and I was able to get much much sharper images.

The iPad Mini will work with the Mavic Controller.
I cant afford a iPad so did some research and came up with ASUS Z380M-A2-GR Tablet, is the same size
as the Mini.

There are several other Tablets that will fit. know the DJI GO App has android suport.
