I tried the P4. I did like it, but then DJI suddenly announce something better that had I known about before making my purchase, I would have bought it instead.

Completely right that I should be able to return something I had been saving up since March for given that we were ambushed with a newer, 'better' product from DJI.

Free tips to DJI to avoid this:

Don't create a white elephant / own goal, (or whatever euphemism you care to throw at it), by bringing out a new product that has all the same features and more in better form factor than your current flagship model you released less than 6 months ago. (I get that DJI is new to this game, but go check out how Canon tiptoe through the tulips). Imagine if Canon released the 5D Mark IV and it was better than the 1D-X? Who would buy the 1D-X?

DJI has a 7 day refund and 14 day exchange.

Instead of returning the p4, i think DJI might consider offering a discount coupon for purchasing a new Mavic Pro to the buyers who purchased P4 recently from DJI web store or DJI store .  it should make the loyal customers happy . win-win situation.

I understand, and that would be cool but probably not going to happen.

I sympathize with those who just got a P4, because I was on the verge of ordering one (I was just waiting for payment to clear on some things I sold).

However, I can't really agree that dji "owes you" anything. Coming out with a new product isn't exactly an unprecedented move. Virtually nobody offers returns past the specified period, or even have a loyalty program of any kind. It's odd to think dji would be any different.

yes it can, and can do it very well. actually having a smaller footprint offers less resistance to wind you know, aerodynamics

That's great information Ken.  If you use your smart phone or tablet (such as iPad), I'm assuming the table will not only display all the current information we see on our screens now withe the Phantoms, but will also have added controls to fly the Mavic?  If so, how easy or cumbersome will they be, IYHO?  I think I'd rather have an actual flight stick in my hand, but that's just speculation on my part without having tried it on the tablet.  Thanks.

Sorry, but I have to disagree.  Vendors like Best Buy offer 45 day return policy and other large vendors have up to at least 30 days, which gives any buyer a certain amount of protection.  A 7-14 day return policy is just not up to industry standard in terms of "customer service."  I know this because I do marketing for a living.  First as a GE Global product mgr and now a marketing professor at a major university.

With all due respect, consumers should not buy directly from DJI....Their service policies are way behind those of their channel partners.  Also, if you are a regular customer of one of these large re-sellers, they will often make exceptions for you.  "Service" is the name of the game in today's brutal consumer market.  Everyone is fighting for the same consumer and service is often the tie breaker.  

In the case of Best Buy and Amazon, every returned Phantom gets sent back to DJI anyway, so what's the difference if DJI gives a customer a small credit.  DJI may come out ahead in the long run, AND serve a loyal customer.  Just my .02 and nothing more.

Flying by WiFi using your phone/tablet still works perfectly fine, but to me it just feels more natural and precise using the RC.

Because many will fly with their device who only want to use the features like TapFly, Active Track, and taking selfies with the Gesture mode.
