    I recently bought the DJI P4 at Best Buy during Labor Day weekend (Sept 4) but now that I see the Mavic about to be released, what are the chances for me to be able to return my P4 and get the Mavic? On this same note, will the Mavic be available at Best Buy? If so, maybe I can do some sort of exchange or does DJI offer this option.  I love the P4 but I really love the portability of the Mavic. I'm planning some big vacations where I would love to use my drone and having a more portable drone would be great.  The Mavic will fulfill this since it has all the things the P4 has but at a more compact unit. Just what I wanted. Any thoughts or recommendations I should do?

An important reason is the range. The Mavic offers up to 4.3 miles (7km) of transmission range. You only can dream this with the P4 unless you have the antenna mod...

So is it fair to say the Mavic is the "better" drone? If so why is it cheaper? Also, I wonder is the advertised range inaccurate the same as it is on the P4.

Overall has the same characteristics than the P4 and the range obviously is much better in the numbers at least, we will see on the real tests. I think that is a different segment than the P4 and the low price is due to the high competition with the brand of the sports cameras and his new flying camera...

Yeah I think this will face tough competition from GoPros drone! They seem similar in design!

Another feature are the special DJI WIRELESS GOOGLES developed for the MAVIC due his Ocusync technology. The resolution beats all the googles of the market right now 1080P vs 720p

It´s only put at that pricepoint to compete against the GoPro Karma. Even the commercial lifts that fact up. Should be 2x price otherwise

Maybe some of the new features will be available on a softwear upgrade for P4, and maybe pigs will fly..

Hahaha true , I don't know in Sweden but in Spain 300mts only and 120 m height... on this forum there is a Dutch that flow 8Kms in Tenerife ( Spain). The fines are high here up to 220.000€

Sweden is 500 meters away and 120m hight (recommended). No fines. How can they prove your intent?

Well if the police stops you here, they could call the airspace security authority AESA, and they can take your aircraft. As you know all the aircrafts has inside a " black box" that reveals all your flying details. A few weeks ago I was flying in the middle of nowhere and the police come with the owner of a cottage, because I was flying near his properties and I could break  his privacy...

Check Best Buy Return Policy. If you bought it on the 4th and it's a 30 day policy....well you do the math.

Am I the only one thinking that the size and weight of these new drones makes them totally unusable anywhere in a stiff breeze...? The sturdy weight of my p4 is the only thing that gives me confidence that if and when the weather changes up high  the flight characteristics won't change too much, and she'll be able to come home. I live in north west UK and I'm pretty certain these paper planes won't last long round these parts!

I don't know exactly how they can access and decrypt, but there a few cases right now with big fines about to fly over the legal limits.

But all they need to do is access the video cache on the device, or the flight records.
In USA, they would go to DJI and demand the key, just as they did from apple. And then, DJI would refuse, but Mcafee would open it up for them!

So I would think the guy who flew 8 KM, must have had a bucket of water to dump his device in, in the event he was approached! And it can not be a new Samsung, which live in water.

The answer is they can't decrypt the files, simple as that. Even the US FBI could not crack the encryption on an Apple iPhone when they tried to do so recently. It is very easy to build encryption into files these days and near impossible to crack it.

Hahaha well this was epic, I saw another video of him flying close to  a Police station. The videos are in this forum.
He was lucky, because here the law is strict with the UAVS.

Anyway I don't know in Australia, because when I've visited the country I haven't got my Phantom, but here they  can force you to stop flying under almost any circumstances if they see any possible criminal activity...

hmmm Could you just attach weights to it? I mean flight time would suffer but you'd get the weight you want/need.

We have a much more enlightened police force, things like drones are the province of our CASA, the equivalent of the FAA in the US. The cops are not empowered to seize your aircraft, so it would not happen.

The FBI would not be bothered going to all that trouble to decrypt the records in the case of a drone, unless a serious crime had occured. Just flying in a dodgy area is not serious enough to go to all that trouble, for any police force.

Good news guys, I was able to return my P4 along with the battery that I also bought extra with no issues what so ever.  I should receive my full refund back on my card within 1-2 business days. Good job Best Buy!!!  Now it is time to shop around for the Mavic.  I can't wait!!!

Now for another question? Is there any advantages of getting the Mavic straight from the DJI online store or should I get it from Amazon?  I have seen some bundle deals that come with extra batteries and a few other goodies for the same amount I paid for my old P4 with the extra battery.

The P4 is an incredible machine, and so is the Mavic. I think you will be extremely impressed when it arrives on your doorstep. You just have to wait some weeks until it arrives.

Yes, the P4 is extremely incredible! I loved it for the short time I had it but I really like the portability of the Mavic! I can't wait for it to arrive!

Max wind resistance seems to be 24mph - though I wouldn't fly over 15 (even that is a bit high - its just not that pleasant to even be standing in an open 15mph)

Actually you may find that the more aerodynamic profile of the Mavic vs the squat wind-breaking Phantom helps...

im just seeking negatives to stop me "needing" to blow £1200 on another drone. Please help by agreeing with me that the mavic will be a pig to fly. Thanks  
p.s. could DJI please offer an invoice doctoring service where a zero is dropped from the reciept please so my Mrs doesnt get to know how much my fad is costing, apparently we have a family to feed blah blah blah

Still havent seen any decent footage from the Mavic yet.

Imho P4 is a better drone

I don't think i would trade my P4 in on one... but am wanting to buy one as a second more portable drone to take on trips and such.
I still love my P4 but look forward to the Mavic Pro!

I was thinking the same however they played it down massively!? The mavic image seemed very washed out and lacking detail...?

Maybe you should watch 4K in 4K resolution instead of edited & downscaled 1080p stream?
