This may be a silly question, but if I format my HD card through the DJI GO app, ( which is my intent to get rid of all the picttures and video) will it also remove the firmware?

Yes it will remove the files that are written to the card, but it does not remove the firmware from the aircraft. You only need the firmware files on the card while you are updating the aircraft, after that they can be erased.

Once you have done all your drone and battery updates, there is no reason to retain the firmware files on the micro sd card..

You can simply store them files, on your computer for future use, if you think they will ever be needed again. ;-)
