I have read some users using a PNY 128gb microSD in the Phantom 4 (although the tech spec is 64gb)... will this be the case for the Mavic?

You're better off using the smaller cheaper 32GB cards anyway. Just keep loads of them and change out with battery changes.

It seems to say the max is 64 gig.  You can find 64gig cards that are class 10 compliant for under $20.

To me, a piece of equipment is either micro sdxc compliant or it is not. If it is then it should be technically capable of taking any size of that standard. I bought at 64GB card for this because I figure it will be good for around 5-6 flights of 4K recording which is sufficient and it only cost about $15.

I use a 128gig card in a Canon camera that states 64 gig max the camera reflects 9999 max pictures at max resolution and I have yet to see it ever count down from there.
Other than that it works flawlessly

Yes,  about 32 minutes 4K for a 16GB card.    It's relatively low bit-rate 4K, so doesn't take much space.
128g cards actually work, but it's not recommended becaues it's not necessary, and you run the risk of losing other files if the SD card becomes corrupt.

DJI-Thor,

Do DJI have a recommended card list of tested cards DJI have recommended for their drones?  This is most important over card size.
Is there a preferred brand? Im a sandisk fanboy but will use what the manufacturer (in this case DJI) suggests/recommends....

Try and get Class 10 U3 graded cards

It won't make any difference getting a faster U3 for a P4. As I remember the P4 ican only achieve a 60mb write speed.

Indeed that is interesting. See how it works.
But I wouldn't use it anyways since the specs say 64 max.
What if you get some once in a lifetime footage then something happens and that footage gets corrupted, that would be a shame.
I don't even use 64GB, I'm perfectly happy with 32GB.

I have a Samsung Evo+ 256 card that came with my galaxy note 7, and I kept the card when I had to kick the phone back for the recall. I was hoping to use that in the Mavic.. I'll Order a couple 64 gig cards off Amazon, but I'm definitely trying the 256 and see if it works.. I just kinda Hate having to carry and change cards all the time..

I cannot confirm until i get my mavic but i am of the opinion that the Mavic will read any micro sd card size as long as it is formatted inside the device, and the reason i say this is that up until a few years ago ALL mobile phones that had a micro sd slot in them would be labelled as a maximum 64gb micro sd capacity, if you popped the chip of lets say 128gb inside the phone would only read 64gb until you formatted it inside the phone and it wrote the correct paths and file system to the card, after this the phone supported upwards of 200gb even though the specs read maximum 64gb, my advice is if you have a spare class 10 or UHS 1 card available then try and see, if not then personally a few 64gb cards would be a cheap option

Since the specs say max 64GB, that's all I would use. As I posted earlier, if you use a larger SD card and something happens to your once in a lifetime photo/video that would be a shame.

I frankly don't understand this. From a low level read/write perspective, this shouldn't happen. If it can address 64GB, it can address 128GB and so should never mess things. If it mess things, then it logically follows that there's a probability of it messing things up for 64GB as well.

I don't think question is if a 128 will work... The question is, why would you want one? A 32GB card has the capacity to record in 4K for about 3 batteries. How much do you WANT to have on one card? That's like leaving pictures on your camera for a full year before making a backup. If you are landing the drone to change the battery, it is safest to swap the SD card right then as well. Why send up your recorded video with the drone, and risk losing it?

Now, in terms of read/write speed of the card... A class 10 is going to be fast enough to write 4K video. So why would anyone want a faster card? That's easy... So you can get the data off of it quicker. Who wants to sit there for 10 minutes while the video is copying off the card, when you can do it faster?

Lastly, cards don't last forever. They just go bad, for no conceivable reason, so spending less for 4 32GB cards or 8 16GB cards is still a better plan than buying a single 128GB card.

Think of it this way... If my my kids are out selling popcorn, or candy bars for a school fundraiser, and go out on 25 minute routes in our neighborhood... Each time they come home, I am going to collect the money they have received before sending them back out. Sending that collected cash back out with them would be just plain stupid. Best to get those "assets" to a safe place as soon as it's collected. Now, apply the same logic to your video.

No, max 64gigs! I think are more than enough and after every flight you can store your footage on your computer!

Of course it's natural to think of the drone as a 'flying camera'. However it's more than that. The mavic will likely end up shooting ground-level events also i.e. concerts, seminars, etc. So if it matters to you, you can also consider how long a Mavic can record with minimal or no gimbal movement and no rotor movement on a single battery. That will be my test of the real minimum card capacity needed to cover all the possible uses on a single battery. Is 32GB enough? Maybe, maybe not.

I just arrived from our NZ/Tahiti trip and the Patriout 128gb MicroSDXC Class C worked like a Champ! There were no defects uploading/downloading, etc.... It was so convenient, especially since I recorded everything in 4K/30fps! Anyway that is My Experience and had no fear what so ever

I would use a 64 or more if I was on a remote location with no access to unload data.

Safest bet is to have multiple SD cards. I use 4 x 16g (I record at 2.7K) in the case my Mavic decides to take dive or a swim.
And also, tape a spare 16g to your controller in the case your forget your card at home in the SD reader.

And if you ever completely forget all your cards, look for an android user and borrow their external SD card. Don't format it though - the file structure on the android is the same as DJI.

My 128GB sandisk ultra worked ok. The Sandisk Extreem 128GB V30 is in amazon reviews to work also. Im in the mind set either is supports the SDXC hardware class of cards or it doesnt.
But on the other hand to buy 4 16GB cards that work and swap it when you change the battery sounds like a better idea. How many videos have you seen on youtube that lost a drone and they want to dive  under water just to get the SD card back. It takes an extra second to swap the card, and I say 4 so you have a spare on hand.

I love the internet because of forums such as this one. Thanks everyone for sharing knowledge I think the best advice is to buy 3 or 4  32 GB cards and just swap them as I change batteries. Thanks for saving me from buying another 64GB card or worse a 128GB.

Have you ever filled them close to capacity?  I saw at least one report that everything went well until the card was 3/4 full and then the files were corrupted (of course that could have been due to other reasons such as a cheap card, or shutting down the Mavic while still recording).

The Mavic is not compatible with UHS-3 Memory cards since it only has the single row of connectors that support UHS1... if you purchase a UHS-3 only UHS-1 speeds will be taken advantage of.

I purchased this card,  http://amzn.to/2seUsbO

It is basically the best card compatible with the Mavic, and it isn't too expensive, it is U3, UHS-1 + Class 10, also it is extremely quick to download the content off the card to the computer saving a lot of time
