Simple question I'll be getting the Mavic which has 4K. Right now my P3 has 2K. I have read your computer has to have 4K capabilities that 1080 won't work. So am I going to need a new computer to work with the 4K videos.

And what PC spec do you have now ?

If you want to keep render time down you need to basically get a gaming spec PC.

I've been editing 4k for some while now, my render times are very good and I can get through a lot of work quickly.

i7 @ 2.93GHz
H60 Corsair liquid cooler CPU (keeps the fans quieter when working)
GTX 970 GPU
12gb RAM
600w PSU
120gb SSD (for image/video software)
120gb SSD (O/S)
250gb SSD (Media)
28 inch 4K monitor (or bigger)

Try this.........

We'd need some more information to guess if your computer is going to work with 4k. What are your specs?

While most computers from the last few years can play a 4k video, you need a pretty beefy computer for editing it. Obviously a 4k monitor is pretty useful too...
Also, remember that you don't *have* to record your videos in 4k.

correct, unless you are playing edited video on your 4k TV, I would just record in 1080.

I sometimes shoot in 4K.  I edit using low rez proxy.  I render the final output at 1080P.  (You can do that with Final Cut Pro very easily.)  I find shooting 4K and scaling it down in the final render makes slightly sharper 1080P results than shooting in 1080.  But it's a slight difference.

Fair enough...  4K footage files are HUGE.  I often shoot in 1080P just for practicality.

And on top of that with 1080 we don't need an XC card.....
