I have a chance to get an Inspire 1 for a good price. I've flown RC for years and have flown a number of different "toy" quads so controlling is not an issue. Is this too advanced or should i go with a P3A?

You will be fine, I jumped from the Phantom Pro to the Inspire and love it.  I have flown RC of ALL types for over 25 years, this is  like a dream come true, almost to easy.  Just start slow.  Make sure the seller has the system updated, this is where it gets a bit confusing.  If you do get it be sure to  read my tips page before doing ANY Updates.
Also the controls and updating are virtually the same, so no big difference between Phanotm  advanced and Inspire, also share the same flight system ( Go APP)

BE smart and read the manual cover to cover before starting out ( It is not very good but read it to get the basics )  and  be sure to set it up corectly , when I sold mine I gave a free lesson and set my buyer up right .

Thanks, I'll be on here a lot I'm sure. May even have to call you and walk me thru it. I'll get it and make sure all is right before I even fire up the motors.

Oh brother that is terrible, I am so sorry to hear that you were scammed lake that .   Karma will catch up to that person !
