Hi everyone,

I am new to community but I hope to stay for longer as I am having so much fun with my new drone.

There is just one problem I am having in multiple locations or maybe its just something I don’t understand.

After reaching altitude of 35-40m, I am loosing visual signal on my phone and the app is asking me to return home. Also the led indicator turns from green to red on remote. I can see the drone is still reacting to controls just fine. After brining it down to 20-10m the signal is back.

I did not expected unlimited range but 40m seems bit disappointing as everything is telling me that connection is lost.
So my question is, is it something that can be fixed easily, should I send it back to DJI or that’s how it supposed to be?

Also the FlightRecord folder on my phone is empty?

More info:
DJI Phantom 3 Standard
Beginner Mode is OFF
Max Altitude and RTH set to 200
Android 6.0.1
DJI Go App 2.9.0
GPS status is always green during take-off.
Antenna on remote is set as it says in guidelines.

Pls help
Adrian

Mr Fly......Firmware version 1.6.8 (the latest official version) is notorious for range issues. I don't know if you can roll back to a previous version on the P3 standard. I would manually re-link your wifi and see if that helps or fly in a less contested area since wifi routers and cell phones will dilute your signal strength. To manually re-link and restore wifi defaults: Turn on controller and copter, hold the controller's camera pitch wheel to the right and quickly flip the S1 switch 3 times or more until the status led on the controller starts to flash red green. Then wait until the status led turns solid green. The controller status led (next to the power switch) indicates wifi link, not GPS.

Thanks Betamace

Manual re-link did not work, lost signal after 25m. I had the same problem in couple of locations.

If it's a firmware problem then it can be fixed by updates, right? Any official word / patches from DJI yet?
I will try different mobile in few days, see if it makes any difference. In the end I will try to rollback firmware.

I will keep you posted ;)

Can you export your flight logs for analysis? From your details, seems you re trying to fly vertically upon yourself, which will result - as expected - in loss of signal.

Hi Adrian, could you please try to fly in a different area to see if it's the same or not?
Also fly it farther firstly then raise the altitude.

have you read the antenna positioning info?

Thanks for all the answers and sorry to keep you waiting, its been a busy week!

Same issue on a different mobile, tried 3 devices in total.
Yes, I'v read quite a lot about antenna positioning before posting this post.
No matter the distance, signal was always lost after reaching altitude of 30m.

So in the end I tried to roll back to 1.5.7 firmware and... success!  The signal has definitely improved, on a last try I lost the signal on my mobile after reaching altitude of 100m which is a massive difference.

My only question now is, is there a way to improve altitude signal even further or is 100-120m a standard for a phantom 3?

I just ordered the DJI Phantom 3 Standard from DJI. If it asks for me to update the firmware should I do it or just keep the older firmware? I don't want the same problem others are having. Hope I'm not making a mistake buying this drone. Thanks for any info

DO NOT UPDATE THE FIRMWARE. If i knew it earlier, i would never have done the update. Now i have to send it for repair.

I am not sure if this is what you meant, but, the worst place to fly any of the Phantom aircraft is directly over your head. The tutorials tell you how to adjust your antennas for best signal, but what is not mentioned is that there is no way to adjust the antenna(s) in the aircraft. So if you fly directly overhead, the aircraft antennas are pointing straight down, and that is the worst position for them. Fly away from yourself, and most likely the range will increase.

Hi BobABooey. Based on my experience I would not update the firmware. Not yet at least

georgegwgoulis, why do you have to send it for repair? It took me 5min to roll back the firmware

Thanks Geebax, I'v done some research and it looks like 100m is the limit for most P3 owners. But Im happy with this altitude.

See this link, as the post says; do it with your own risk. It worked just fine for me.

So i just did the downgrade to the firmware from 1.6.8 to 1.5.7 and my aircraft works perfect again!!! thanks a lot man! I spoke with many specialists at dji.com/support doing many settings as they told me with no result and nobody accepted that the fimware 1.6.8 is probably the problem.
