I find it appalling that so many people here exhibit such a disregard towards safety and regulation. All UAVs fail, Mavic is no exception, be it manufacturing defect, user error or environmental issue.
The weight, while small, is more than capable to do serious damage from height.
Just consider the scenario of it falling on the head of a young child, which coincidentally probably won't have the smarts to move even if it saw the drone falling. Would you want that to happen to your child? Or falling through a windshield of a car, causing the driver to swerve and starting a multi car pileup.
Or a more common scenario, flying over a concert/sports stadium crowd, even a Mavic would inflict a lot of injuries.
Here's an anecdote from a fellow drone operator near me. While filming a concert, someone from the crowd though that it would be a great idea to hit the drone camera with a powerful green laser. Luckily the operator was quick to react and maneuver to safety so no harm or damage was done, except to the camera sensor.
Finally, there are regulations.
In my country, no flight over populated places without a safety system in place is allowed. In heavily populated places, only an octo + parachute is allowed.
So a parachute is a requirement just to be legal.
And it follows that one can't get insurance coverage while engaging in illegal activity.
I hope that people would stop deriding others for their safety and legal concerns.
