i use the filters from phantomfilters.com. i always have a polarizer, and i usually use up to an additional nd2-nd16, but i have 2 of each, so i could stack them up to the equivalent of nd 60, but i haven't had the need for that yet.

ND filters are quite common. Most common ones are the ND8 and ND16.

I use ND8 all summer and I plan to go to ND4 now, since the sun angle is changing.

I think you should have narrow down your poll choices, because people who use a ND filter don't use just one setting. They change based on the brightness of the day. Number #3, #4, #5 could have just said "ND filters". IMO

I doubt he cares about the poll, he admitted on another post that he is trying to up his point count with all these pointless posts.

There is no 'best', all of them have their purpose. Stupid poll.

That demonstrates a lack of understanding of what an ND filter is designed to do, you select the value according to how bright the sunlight is, not based on what you 'like' .

Lol.
I use an ND64 because its a bigger number than the ND32. The higher the number, the more Natural Density the trees will look in my aerial footage. =)

How can you possibly use an nd64? Do you film on the surface of the sun?

adding to all the above, do you guys use an ND for still photographs on a Phantom or any quad for that matter, i would love to know why use an ND for still photos,

ND to slow the shutter speed down to get smooth water flow, moving skies... all makes sense, but can you use an ND to get better control of Highlights or whatever your reason is.... like to know it.

ND64 are for superbright days on the snow fields, where the sun reflects of the snow.

In videography, the ND filters are used to slow down the shutter speeds and create motion blur. The blur gives that cinematography look. The rule of thumb for shutter speed is double the frame rate, eg 24fps = 1/50th shutter speed.

'but many swear by the use of ND for normal still photography, thats what puzzles me'

The primary reason is because with still photography, you reduce the aperture size to reduce the amount of light getting into the sensor, and that can do two things, firstly it creates a greater depth of fieldm which is not always what the photographer wanted, and secondly, it can introduce artifacts in the image, as most lenses are optimised for middle value apertures, and do not perform as well at small apertures.

That makes sense on a DSLR, does it affect a phantom size sensor too to a greater level?

Not at all, as the asperture is fixed on the Phantom, but the electronic gain and sensitivity can be adjusted.

they have threads on the inside, they do offer a bit of protection for the camera from scratches etc.
