In situations where the aircraft crashed but still powered up, an  audible beep coming from the aircraft could aid in search and rescue.  The GPS can help in locating the aircraft within a grid or general area.  The audible beeps, like a beacon, will help in localizing the aircraft  when you're within earshot.

Since the aircraft already has a  beeper built-in, the feature can be added in software and provide an option to the user to either turn it on indefinitely (ie. beeps every 10  seconds whenever it's powered up), manually triggered (the user can activate it at will, as long as the controller/tablet is within range), automatically activated whenever the aircraft enters autonomous flight or during RTH, or if the aircraft  encounters a violent jolt (crashing or hitting an obstacle).

My Trackimo 3G does that, but the sound is much to low in volume. Unless it was dead quiet (no road or wind noise) and I was within 30 feet.

Yes, just buy a trackimo or similar tracking device for your drone.

I think that's a great idea, although for 'when crashing or hitting an obstacle', perhaps it'd be better if it went 'AARRGGHHH!'

I set my battery to explode on impact. It's easier to find with smoke signals.

Seriously, I don't think it was too "out there", but I do concede that there may be other alternatives available (ie. GPS tracker).
