What is a good, and intuitive video editing software for me to buy? I would really love to be able to capture high quality stills out of the video I take. Is that possible? Thanks from a new guy.

You can never really get high quality stills from a moving image. The MPEG compression process introduces a whole range of estimations and movement artifacts that will distort the images. You are far better off shooting high quality stills with the Phantom cameras.

As for editing packages, you can get cheap and cheerful and easy to use, and extremely powerful, and all for no cost at all. Or you can pay for the 'name' packages and keep paying through the nose by subscription. But any editing program that is worth knowing about will always have a learning curve. It also depends upon whether you have a PC o0r Mac as to what would be suggested.

I use Sony vegas 13 for most everything. Premier pro is also good if you want to do color correcting.

     Geebax makes some good points, especially whether you have an Apple product or a PC.  The Windows 10 upgrade provides a very good video player.  To capture my stills, I used to do as Geebax notes, until I realized that for most stills, I can get high quality out of the Windows Screen Capture option (PrintScreen).  The quality for .jpg, which is not good enough for some professional photographers, works good enough for me and allows a lot of zoom under most conditions before any pixelation.  But, then I have a gaming computer with quality video cards and lots of RAM.

     For free photo capture from free video editing software, try GoPro Studio.  There is an export function available for stills.  Again as Geebax notes there is a significant learning curve for most video editing software, but the best one I know of is DaVinci Resolve (now 12.5 by Black Magic) and it is free.  The color correction is far beyond anything else that is free but it takes a while to learn it all.  But they do have a 1000 page manual!

Thanks so much for you time & wisdom. This is a wonderful new adventure for a person that spent days on end in the "darkroom" in the old days.
