apologies for being slightly of topic but, I have received a UPS label and paperwork to send the drone to the Netherlands. I have also got some paperwork and instructions from DJI Support but I cant find anywhere whether I'm supposed to return the drone body in a normal cardboard box or the DJI foam box it usually lives in. Anyone know?

If I was to take a guess, I would say that one motor just cut out. Now that could be a poor connection between the motor and the ESC section, or a bad joint on the main board. But it could also be a loss of one phase in the drive. That would stop the motor and account for higher than normal current consumption.

The smoking gun does seem to be a motor. Will know more when they get to hook it up i guess.

when my other quadcopter threw a prop, it fell in the opposite direction it was flying, but just slightly. maybe because it threw the prop when it was stopping. It fell slower than normal, and flipped like 3 or 4 times as if the 2 motors diagonal from each other (and theres only one pair, since it lost on prop) was the axis it spun around. it only fell from about 10-15 feet and clearly spun around because it had 2 motors holding up the sides evenly, then one spinning without an opposite to even out its movements causing it to spin. if that makes sense.

Definitely interested, but I expect it will be replaced under warrantee and they wont tell you what was actually wrong, fingers crossed for a good replacement.

Looking at the log again, the problem starts with it rolling as though both motors on one side lost power, but since the power consumption goes up and stays up I will go with Geebax's explanation of it loosing a phase, and probably all motors stopped allowing it to go into the spin, the spin and the drag from the props then stabilised it allowing it to come down approximately upright at 18mph with a bit of side movement due to the wind.

It would be good to see what the turn around time is for a UK fix, did you phone the DJI UK help line, or all online ?

As you've said the motor appears to be the culprit whatever caused it to fail.

I just raised a support ticket and asent an email. This actually created 2 tickets so they merged them into 1. Its in the Netherlands atm which was fast, only about 4 hours after i dropped it into a UPS drop in. Nothing showing on the "repair progress" so im guessing its still with UPS till tomorrow. DJI support say to expect 3 days to unpack, well i did use a lot of selotape, so i dont expect any info for a few days.

It may take a couple of days before they look at it, I found that if you contact a moderator on this forum and ask them to check your case number , they seem to have a bit of direct influence, it may help if you feel it's taken a bit to long to get a result on it, you should also find once they check it out, it will be very quick to go through the stages,
Good luck .

Seems like forever but I have eventually received an email concerning the damage and repair. As expected, it didn't include anything technical to indicate what actually happened. On the Repair service page it doest give any info at all but part of the email states     "Remark:  w unit the esc error caused the crash swap".   Cryptic in its content, but it does point to it being electronic. Just gotta hope they replace it with a good one. A new one would be nice, or a Mavic Thanks to all who commented on this post and hopefully I'll be in the skies again soon.

Just got a replacement and no explanation as to what happened. The battery I had in when it crashed doesnt seem to want to charge up so im guessing its buggered. Anyhoo, I think we can put this thread to bed and many thanks to everyone who offered an opinion.

fingers crossed its not a swapped out one that already has a issue, i bet watchdog would love to get sent some info on how its all done and why its done this way..

Dont make sense you buy a drone £1400 have it a week and has a problem, you send it back to DJI 2 months later you get it back swapped from one thats 6 months old..where is the link to buy a refurbished drone from dji?

It does seem to be a reconditioned replacement they sent. 2 batteries worth of, close, flying today with no problems other than poor video link which could be powerline related and a slightly uneven gimble for me to calibrate tomorrow.
