I am planning to mod one of my controllers , I happen to have 2 of them.., is it possible to have binded 2 controllers to the same craft , so regardless which one I take with me it will automatically connect to P3P ? or is it that each time I will have to rebind the new controller over again and have only one controller as operational  at that moment ?

what about controller firmware ? would that be safe to fly on a newer controller firmware than the firmware currently loaded on the P3P ?
or do the firmware have to match on both the p3 and the controller in order to bind the secondary controller ?

can you roll the controller firmware back or reset the controller to the factory default ?

Why would you want to do that??
Best practice is to be upto date on the firmware on both the drone and RC at all times.

I prefer to stay on the firmware where I have no issues with my craft,no limited range problems and no Geofencing ...

So you have answered your own question then....

What I replied was that I do not want to upgrade the craft but I would like to bind the secondary controller even if that will be set on a higher firmware version than the craft itself , will that work I do not know, so lets leave the answer to someone that had tried that and can produce an answer based on experience rather than guessing and assumption...

New firmware for Phantom 3 series, Phantom 4 and Inspire 1 has been released at April 7th, 2016. When you upgrade your aircraft and remote controller, please note:
  
  
1.       Both aircraft and remote controller must be upgraded to the latest version. If not, “RC Signal Lost” will be displayed on the DJI GO APP.

  
2.       The upgrade of the aircraft will take about 20 minutes and 10 minutes for the remote controller.

  
3.       Make sure that the battery level is over 50% before the upgrade.

  
4.       Do not power off the aircraft during the upgrade process. Following situations can appear : gimbal becomes limp; LED indicators blink irregularly or go off; the aircraft reboot itself, etc. Do not panic it is normal.

  
5.       Please pay attention to the gimbal status indicator during the upgrade process:

On this note, i think you will find i do Know my stuff on upgrading firmware to the same version as i had a RC replaced under warranty. I had an issue getting them to connect at first, but solved thanks to kind people on here offering help and suggestions on how to fix it.

I connected my secondary controller on unmatched firmware and it works fine with older 1.4 firmware on the bird, so whom ever the guy in Hong Kong Tong Pong is,
he is wrong....

You would have to rebind it with each time you switch remotes otherwise it would not be effective to avoid interference with other controllers and ended up in the crash situation
