I am looking to buy a DJ I phantom 2.   Have never owned a quad copter its my first time I do not know much about them.

What I want in my quad copter is for it to go roughly up to 2 miles range.  With a fpv.
I would also like on-screen data.  
And be able to use waypoints and see the map it's travelling on.  

By looking online videos information i understand I need to buy a lot of custom bits.  Can somebody please point me in the right direction.
Obviously I would like to spend minimum as possible.

I need a list of everything I would need also I would like that failsafe option in case something goes wrong.  If I could use the standard controls to save money that would be good

If you want a two mile flight radius you don't want a Phantom you need a larger craft with full FPV. The effective range of a Phantom is around 500 meters max. It may be best to look in the expert section. I will say tho that you need to get some experience with a smaller bird before attempting to fly that far which by the way since it will be out of sight is illegal in the US and quite a few other places without a UAV pilots licence.

You might try a Hubsan X4 quad, they are under a $100 and good learning tool you can fly in the house

Those kits improve wifi?  Is it not better to buy a new transmitter and receiver Kit with FPV screen etc? Wifi is for the vision plus?? Am not sure maybe confused

Turbazz, right, WiFi is for the Vision+. Those antennas will work with the Phantom 2 DJI remote.

I dont want a vision plus.  So whats a good fpv setup? With waypoints and on screen telementry 2-3 km    Ive been told the remote standard is preety strong?  The fpv is the issue.  Also is the hero three a good camera?   Argh this is confusing.  
Ive been told to change to 5.8 tx rx. ?  I don't know what any of this means though

You need to do a bunch of reading and watching videos. There are plenty of people who do exactly what you want to do. I know this is not exactly helpful, but you need to put in the time to really learn or you will spend more than you need to.
