As I turned on the remote for the first time in a classroom, the remote made it's loud start up beep and then beeps at intervals while on, also when turned off.

(luckily nobody noticed)

I think Not. Having the same problem myself with remote controller low battery alarm stuck on.  The online FAQ says nothing, but the FAQ within the DJI GO android app has a section on the remote controller:

4. Can I turn off or change the beeping tones on the remote controller?  
No. The beeping is used to warn or inform users in certain siutuations and cannot be changed.

HAVE TO SAY THAT IS VERY POOR DESIGN. I fly somewhat larger aircraft for a living and the first step to dealing with any warning alarm, is to silence the aural warning. So as not to distract the user from the task at hand and dealing with the situation that cuased the alarm. Noting more destracting than a horn going off while trying to deal with an issue.
