I bought the mavic not solely for the active track. But I do a lot of mtb and it's a great feature to follow me along trails etc
I tried it out this afternoon, open ground and I struggled to get it to follow
Firstly. I tried to use wifi and initiate active track on my mobile device and put the phone in my pocket and ride away. This didn't work. As soon as I started to ride away it lost signal and stopped
So I tried with the RC. Had a bit more success but it's no good to me if I have to hold it in my hands and ride my bike aggressively
Can anyone share their experiences about how to get it to work how I want with my mobile over wife. I.E. putting the phone in my pocket and it still tracks me
Is locking the phone and putting it in my pocke ...
I have this question, as well. Does locking the phone 'sleep' the app or process needed?
Also, were you using 5Ghz or 2.4Ghz? Which phone? Do you have a protective case around it? What material is your pocket/clothing AND what else is in that pocket with the phone?
I had exactly the same ambitions...
I figured wifi mode is useless due to the flight limitations automatically set to 50m high and 80m distance from the take off point.
So I tried with the controller, holding it in my hand (result here : https://youtu.be/chOhk9uc20c )
And I will also probably try to get some silicone in order to make a mold of my phone + mavic controller and find some way to attach it to my bike
I didn't read it the manual but in the app ! Everytime I set up the flight limitations then go in wifi mode, I get a message saying height and distance has been set to 50/80meters

You could try use follow me, I have only tried this around the garden on P4
I've just read the manual and it states 80m range but nothing about that been from the home point. It does however say max speed in wifi is 9mph which could be the issue
Could it be because of poor lighting. It is getting darker quite early after the clocks were set back. I'm presuming based on your other post that you are in the UK. You may get better response when it is brighter. Try it out this weekend in the morning to see if it is due to how bright your environment is.
my plan now is to go to the hardware store and get some silicone (same as the one used here : ) to put the silicoe in a square mold, put my phone+controller in a plastic bag and put some grease around the bag and push the thing in the mold containing the silicone. once its dry, I'll probably cut the excess silicone, make a square box out of plywood or something and glue the mold into that box. and then I'll find a way to mount it on the handlebars (not sure if i'm being very clear here)
It means from the phone, but I think 9mph lucky if you could track a tortoise. You hit the nail on the head there, didn't realize it would be that slow in wifi. Thanks
well.. all I can say is I did try, and past that 80m range from the take off point (i'm positive about that) the drone stops and you can't re-enable active track because you've reached the max range.
Also, I do have a phone holding thing (and a USB plug for that matter) on my bike so it's not a matter of the phone being obstructed :
yeah, it doesn't make much sense but when you think of it, I doubt the mavic keeps track of where the phone is while in wifi mode... (perhaps another request to add in my other thread ? http://forum.dji.com/thread-70704-1-1.html )
overall it's just a minor set back, you just need to find a way to securely hold the controller on the bike
Ur right, it was bright at midday. Chances are slim but I still have to ask. You weren't wearing green by any chance were you? Probably not. One thing is for sure, active tracking is completely software based so if there is a problem with the active tracking feature, it can be rectified with a firmware update. Bit of bummer though, I was personally hoping to use active tracking for my dog training sessions.
I think you should try using the follow me mode as it track your via GPS on your mobile phone, that might be the best option. But that required good gps signal on your phone
Keep in mind that you can have the phone and remote connected with a longer cable.
So you can mount them separately on you bike/person.
I imagine the remote would fit nicely in a bottleholder with some padding.
huh? I mean he is trying to get the drone to follow.
I was under the assumption that you can follow a subject just by visual tracking not by having a permanent connection.
IE a boat, a dog etc. even if you are not close with the remote.
