Good question really. If one assumes there is no obstruction between you and say your girlfriends house, you can fly straight there and don't have to avoid trees or houses. Further you can see her house, and when the bird flies you can watch it all the way there and back. That is called line of sight.
If on the other hand you fly out to sea as the video shows, fairly quickly you will not be able to see your bird, and you are no longer in line of sight mode. You are relying entirely on the video and your instruments, which by definition means you are not flying line of sight any more because you can not see the bird.
The liability of causing damage when you are not following the rules is enormous. Maybe this only happens in the USA, but line of sight is a good idea no matter where you fly. |
