I was just checking out the policy statement for travel insurance.

We are going to australia at xmas and I'm taking the mavic with me of course
Our household insurance only covers the drone anywhere in New Zealand not overseas..
Travel insurance policys don't mention model aircraft or radio controlled..
BUT they do mention camera or photographic equipment..
The DJI mavic is flying camera equipment you might say
The DJI mobile definatley is ...
Has anyone investigated this subject of insurance when travelling overseas before ??

Who are you insured with?

I'd be really interested in how that would play out if you attempted to make that claim..

If it were stolen then sure.. But if you lost it while flying i very much doubt they would honor it as a piece of lost camera equipment..

In the same way that if you were throwing your dslr or gopro up in the air to try and get higher shots and then a bird grabbed it mid air. i guess your success would rely somewhat in the telling of the incident..

visa platinum card travel insurance. I contacted them earlier.
They said it was ok as long I was on holiday not business and the value was under $2000.
I told them it was a flying drone with a camera on it and i was going to be using it to film part of my holiday.
They said it was classed the same as camera personal  effects up to $2000 per item.

That's good to hear. I'm with State. They've never given me any trouble with claims in the past but i just dread the thought of having to make that call about a drone..
