Yes it's normal and it's really sounds scary

It does lol, so many horrible stories of bad updates, this one is sure taking sweet time, been stuck at 58% for a while

Update finished, took it for a 20 minutes flight, 316ft high, a little over 400ft distance not a single problem.

my problem is not with flight, after update I get 1.6.8+ and not 1.7.9...  today I flew 275m distance and 80m High without problems... just on the about tab I get N/A on version

Note. Return to Home was tested OK, PoI was tested OK, course Lock tested OK

Had you any problems with the distance and height for the update? (lose signal no video and so on....)
Thats the question ....
because many users were affected, and everyone is updating, but no one reports if it fix the problem.....

No problem at all before and after update. I flew two times after update using inteligente flight and on second flight I use RTH without problem! What happens with me is just the firmware version number on the DJI Go App.

If you see my log file you can observe that the update was well done!

I´m on CE mode and today I flew 250m away!

Well, as I said in an earlier post. I did not see a banner, but went to the firmware download page and installed the new firmware manually with an SD card.  I just went out and tested the Standard.  I do have a Windsurfer on the antenna, but before the update, I could not get more than 2,000 feet out without a RTH kicking in, even with the Windsurfer.  But just now, I flew out of my backyard where there is a lot of electrical interference, such as power transformers, and several very close WiFi station from the neighbors.  Even with all of that, I was quickly able to go out 3,000 feet (914 meters.)  I have never, ever, been able to do that before.  My app still says that I have 1.6.8, but I truly doubt that.  I have tried the ERGtek antennas, but removed then when I could only go out 2,089 feet.  My Windsurfer gave me nearly the same.  I just went out 3,000 feet. Something changed!  I think I like it.

I just had a flight out to 10157 feet (3096 meters) with my P3S on the new 1.7.9 firmware, nice!

Too bad I found stress cracks on one motor mount after finishing the flight, which will be 70 days and 11 total flights since I got it back from DJI service for exactly the same problem. Great job DJI!

I did delete and then reinstalled the DJI Go app. And I re linked the RC to the drone. But I still don't see a notice (banner) to update.  And I just noticed something else. When I go into the app and open "About", there is nothing listed in the Version category.  It just says "N/A". As I said before, I installed the new firmware by a SD card, and the aircraft flew farther than it has ever flown.  I went out just over 3,000 feet before turning back.  I have never been able to go out that far before.  It would be nice if it showed me the new FW in the App, but at this point, I don't care.

By the way, the RTH feature worked as planned.

WOW, stock?? I've been out to 3550 meters, but with a DBS and amps. But on 1.6.8 FW. What where you getting before going to 1.7.9

guys... is there anyone who had prevoously problems with the standard range limit to 50meters that now has been solved? those specialy in european countries...  do u guys still have the problem of range? (50 meters only)????

I am on  3.01 Galaxy S7 I do have the banner but I'm waiting till I get more feedback don't want any trouble 4 glitches I have 1.6.8. And for me it works flawlessly I couldn't dream of a better working machine

So, people who reach over 500 m... please state your altitude, and setting.

It seems, most people are able to get at least 1000m distance when they are up 90m > altitude.

For me, the furthest I have been without any laggy video, was about 300m away, but I was at a slight 5 -10 m slope and i flew my p3s up the small hill. I had VLOS .
Altitude was 50-55m up. In a usual neighbourhood setting.  At 310, "no signal" - and then option to RTH popped up. I selected it and operation timed out.
I still had RC control of the drone, so I flew back towards me.

So I think.. 200m is already quite far away. Just not as strong as Advance of course.

also, app should be latest. But Drone is 1.5.70

Those are my findings/ experience.

I had had stress cracks before and it was fixed by DJI. One push factor about P3 is the possible stress cracks.....
Thoughts?

I am not planning to upgrade unless it is proven by number people who update to 1.7..... that signal loss , video transmission etc... are better than what I have right now.

I think.. If I flew at 80 - 100 M height, I could probably also have up to 1000m distance from take off.  - That is my hypothesis.
But because I am not currently in my Home country, I don't plan on updating.. as everything is working fine right now .

Have you tried to connect it with an IOS device since you upgraded it with an android phone?
Glad to hear that it functions well as planned.
For your android phone, you could restart the phone and check again later.

Glad to hear everything functions well, for the version number on "About" page, please help clarify what mobile device you are using to connect the remote, have you tried another IOS device or Android device?

I have the banner for update I'm not using Wi-Fi only my phone service I don't have any Wi-Fi service at all an unlimited service on my phone I'll wait to update to see what the word is but I do have the banner turn your Wi-Fi completely off on your phone then open DJI app

Have you looked into the P3C_FW-LOG_AB.txt file for the most recent upgrade successfully performed  and see what version it installed? I have 1.6.8 installed and tried to upgrade to 1.7.9 via SD card but it stops at version checking. I've never had FW version reported in the GO app settings/about.

I have the same problem. My first ver is 1.5.7. I see the banner with upgrade to 1.6.8. Upgraded. Now in DJI GO, in version section i have information: N/A (no information about version).
Updated with successfully, but still i haven.t information abt new version 1.7.9 I tried everting. {:4_142:}

For phantom 3 standard, there is no need to put the bin file into SD card to get it upgraded, we can upgrade it through APP directly.
May I know have you tried to delete APP, reinstall it and upgrade it again?

In my case: I tried everything: restarts app, restarts wifi/reconnection, deleted files in my phone (dji go pilots).....My system is Android 5.0.2

Had the same " upgrade to 1.6.8" prompt but ignored it. I shutdown drone, controller and app. Restarted everything and the next prompt I got was for 1.7.9 Selected the upgrade which went well. Still grounded though due to weather.

I did all that, but I still don't see the Banner or the 1.7. showing in "About" on my Android App.  Only did one test flight last night, and it was great.  I will test more this evening after work.  If I remember correctly, my first test flight was at 190 feet and went out 3,000 feet.  That's the best I've ever done with the Standard.

I found solution for banner with new update :-) Please change your phone fm android to iOS system :-) I was tested new firmware and my max dist. is 500m without errors :-)

For me personally, there seems to be an issue with Android.  I threw DJI Go on my work IPhone and it went through 1st try.  Everything shows correctly on the Iphone as well.  On my Android all I see is N/A for firmware version.   Hoping to test it today and see if the issues are fixed.

Yes. I was the similar situation My max distance - 500m achieved without modification (in CE mode).
The previous version 1.5.7 sometimes i was "Low Signal" but still to 500m. Today, on 1.7.9 without any errors/msg. Without any modifications.
So if you don't have banner with update on Android, please use iOS system. Good luck!!!

Two weeks ago I have a problem with my phantom 3 standard, I eh flown and when I get to 80 meters distances the app starts to say lost signal and then returns home, I vole in rural areas to make sure that no no interference. I mind flying above 800 meters away and everything was fine. What's going on? help me!!
