Just put a new battery in after the FW update and the next battery will update when you power cycle, as long as the BIN file is still on the SD card.

ok took her for first flight after up date at first all fine got a max 3100 ft then on 2nd bat was just over 1000 ft and lost Total connection i mean red light on rc..  that really up set me.  i have lil over 100 flights and NEVER had that.id loose control sig then rth til sig returned but vis was always strong this is the 1ST time i lost every thing green to red and droped the phone too.

Updated to 1.7.9 yesterday and max'ed my travel distance to 450m using stock antenna only, happy to say that this was without the (prolonged) annoying intermittent weak signal warnings or video feed cuts/blackouts. Then today pushed the bird up vertical distance to 130 - 140m also and again, without the (prolonged) annoying weak signal warnings, considering flying close to area with interference. Before, at 1.6.8 and even at times with 1.5.7 (downgraded) passing direct overhead altitude of 60 - 70m gives out weak signal warnings already. Im happy with this new update yet nervous as I need to test fly the bird to its potential, same way feeling the first time I bought it. Gonna try earn more guts for next flight checks and cross fingers DJI hacked it this time. Btw,  Go App is ver 3.0.1 using Note 5.

I had big problem with 1.6.80 update and i couldn't fly over the 30 metres height. Updating the aircraft with the 1.7.90 firmware,the problem solved and it works perfect!!!!even better from the 1.5.70!!!

Updated to 1.7.90 via the Go App (only time I really use it)

I always fly from the same place for my tests and have a double track railway with 25KV overheads between me and the drone after takeoff, then over my village with usual wifi etc

I fly using Litchi missions so I am used to/expect to lose range

With 1.6.8 I was losing telemetry / controller signal at about 60m away and 30m height

With 1.7.90 firmware got 800m away and 160m height before loss this weekend (air temp about 5 degrees)

No mods to drone or controller

Did you allow the app to perform the update or if you used the SD card update method, did you leave the .bin file on the SD?

In my case, I have never seen a firmware version shown in the app and have no clue if the firmware version is posted on the app only when the RC also receives an update.

(sorry to hijack your previous post)

I forgot to say - I'm on IOS - but I let the app download the bin file onto the SD card. I didn't manually do it.

It took a couple of days until 'the banner' showed up on the go app for me (in the UK)

In your wifi setttings go to advanced (Top right corner) you can pick 2.4 or 5  or both.  I do this to stop any chance of interference on 5ghz band as this is the video link. I just decided to eliminate any chance of interference.

about the DJI Go version info I don´t now how but like magic the version show up!

About upgrade: I did first via DJI Go, but I was worried because the version on app was 1.6.8+ then I reinstall the app and version show me N/A. I flew anyaway tree or four times with no worries and then the app start to show me the right version!

I feel that DJI ignore the owners of the P34K, On the app, when you're not connected to your drone it isn't even listed on the P3 drop down list.

When will the 4k get this update? My drone is almost unusable at the moment!

Just installed the update. 1.6.8 did not work for me (range was only 30m), so I was stuck at 1.5.7.
The range with 1.5.7 was at around 1500ft.
Now the new firmware seems very promising. I did a quick test flight and was over 2700ft away before the video feed began to drop out.
So it looks like DJI fixed the range issues with 1.6.8.

Tested my p3s today on the new 1.7.90 fw and distance has inproved very much .
Before update i got maybe 100m distance now i get 500+ but im still testing it at the moment need better weather im in the uk.

Ok I did the firmware update....... Is it necessary now to calibrate the IMU?

It is always advisable to make an IMU and compass calibration after a firmware update.
Also, check the settings in the APP sometimes stand it on default after a firmware update. (RTH settings etc, etc)

Also I would like to give this bit of experience I mostly and almost always use my Galaxy S7 I had the banner for upgrade. However I didn't update until I could see at least a few people say it was okay.

So I went and tried for the sake of argument my Galaxy Tab 4 10.1 on that one nothing I did would make the banner come up I tried opening it with an internet connection and no drone and I tried uninstalling and reinstalling the update in the banner never showed up.



Like I said it did show up on my Galaxy S7 I found out one day to get into this forum and talk about some stuff and that particular day as soon as I open the app to get on to the Forum using the app then the banner was there

I just picked up a new P3S #2 and updated to new 1.7.9 and (my other P3Shas been great on 1.5.7+)  They use same remote with argtec upgrade. did first test flights including programmed 'Litchi tests' and was holding 2500'+ with only one short drop 2700+ in a dense area that did not usually allow that distance. Kinda my goto spot for testing. So far looks like a solid improvement. I will test the 2nd craft with a before and after when I get it back..going to DJI for a second time in 6 months 'stress cracks this time' 200+ flights. When that one was on 1.6.8 distance was cut by 1/3 and dropped out at 1100' in this same area. My best flight in an open area was over 7000' so that is possible..with ARGtec upgrade.

Mine updated fine but I got the update firmware banner twice in the ios app when I changed batteries. It updated once via the ios app on battery 1. I then changed to battery 2 and the banner in the ios app appeared again and the update occured again. I switched back to the first battery just to make sure and everything seems to be ok. Just wanted to tell people as I seem to be the first person to experience this.

Every battery that you owns, need the update.
just put the battery in the PS and the battery will update to  the latest version.
(Bin.file must be on the SD-card.) follow the discriptions on the screen.

i tried it today. i downloaded it and upgraded my aircarft. i flew on rural zone again and same. this time 200 meters away is all ok,  when it pass this distance .. once again. lost signal and RTH. help please i dont know what can i do???....i simply fly like i flew before.. before i flew to 800 meters away with all ok.

i keep getting lost signal, i installed firmware 3 times. Just bought this drone today

Possibly you ran into interference in that area.
Fly in a different area to see if it's the same or not.
Also, make sure your antenna in correct orientation.

Boy I really screwed up!!!! Banner was on my Go app but it would not download so I decided to downlo ...

That means you only upgraded the aircraft but not remote.
Please turn on remote, then connect the phantom WiFi on your mobile device, check whether there is a notice to ask you to upgrade it. Remember to connect Network Internet firstly to obtain the version info.

FIXED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hopefully people having trouble will see this! I had a failed update going to 1.7.9 and loud alarm beeping noise! Looked online and somebody said to pull the update from my phone and just slap it on the sd. Which I did because the BEEPING was driving me crazy. For some reason after doing this (I assume its because it didn't update the RC) the RC would connect and control my P3S but I had no video or status in the app. I contacted DJI support (they tried to be very helpful) but nothing they suggested worked. I asked if I could downgrade and was told I could not. Which is wrong because I did. I was able to install 1.6.8 I formatted the sd and threw just that firm file on there and it wrote it and everything was working again at which time i proceeded to update to 1.7.9 through the app like normal.

When I bought my DJI PHANTOM 3 STANDARD one month ago, I reached a distance of 600 Meters and an altitude of 450 Meters, but since 2 weeks ago I just could reached a distance of 130 Meters and an altitude of 110 Meters, and SIGNAL LOST and GO HOME. I checked DJI GO APP and BEGINNER MODE is DISABLE, MAXIMUM ALTITUDE is 400 METERS and DISTANCE LIMIT is DISABLE. My drone is on PERFECT CONDITIONS, I never have crashed and the FIRMWARE is UPDATED. So someboby could let me know what is happening.

Which firmware? 1.6.8 or the latest 1.7.9?

Manual updade, check the txt file on sdcard: update success. Next i open dji go and option=>about firmware:  1.6.80+
Some issues are fixed, but what? No banner, no 1.7.9 in the option, just 1.6.8+ .. i don't understand....

The latest versions of Go-app (on my cheap Asus Zen pad) do not show a firmware version .
Is this how DJI knows your machine is upgrade able ?
Is this the reason I am not getting an update firmware banner ?
I Have tried for the last 2 days every possible method to achive ver 1.7.90 .
But no luck so far
I'm reluctant to purchase another tablet as this one has worked O.K. for the last year .

Please link your pad with RC and aircraft first. Check current firmware version.
Then connect to network to see if there's the update message.
Also maybe you could borrow your friend's mobile device to check the update if convenient.

Natalia, I tried as you stated, no notice to upgrade. I did notice through my android apps that there was an update for the DJI GO app so I updated that. Tried it again and nothing. I tried shutting everything down again and retrying, still nothing. Solid red linking light and flashing yellow lights on the aircraft.

Thank you DJI for the fix.

Previously I was not able to have video feed the moment I fly above my roof line. The only time I could get a stable video feed at any distance was flying it in a middle of a jungle.
Anytime in the city, I would need to fly blind and point it in the general direction I want to shoot.

With 1.7.9 and GO App v3.1 I could now fly to 600m where I would lost video feed at 20m. Had this update been out earlier, I probably don't need my ARGtek antenna mod installed.
Feels great to fly again.

Probably tablet issue.
Could you please change a mobile device to see if you can do the update?
