I've lost my drone and was told that I could recover the flight log from the remote controller. I've never used any of the apps so its no synced with anything other than my computer. Can anyone help me understand how to extract the flight log from the remote?

They would only have RC flight logs if you were using the DJI Go app. If you never used the Go app, there won't be anything available.

Can we assume that the OP has a Phantom 2, as he posted in this section ?
In which case there are no flight logs to retrieve as that feature was not introduced until the Phantom 3.

None of the Phantom 2 models, even the Vision/Vision Plus that had a map, do not save flight data. If you're going through the claim process with DJI, they would only use the questionnaire that you would have submitted to evaluate.

Since this is a general Phantom section, it could be either model. Though I did notice that he did tag a Phantom 2, which was an oversight on my part.
