The launch of the Mavic Pro could only mean eighter the end of the legendary Phantom series or an imminent new Phantom release.

Personally I am amazed of how well DJI is doing in the last few years. Every single product release has been a great success. Even though there have been some small problems (yes, I am waiting too for my Mavic), I think DJI is on the right path an while I am a really big Apple fan (I own every product of them), I think they slowed a bit down in terms of innovation, whereas DJI is getting better and better.

What I like the most of the new P4P are the 5-direction sensors (why not also upwards???), the 1080p @120 fps and the 100 mbit/s video bitrate. With the 4K @60fos I am happy to notice that DJI is one of the first one who made the step in the next camera generation. Soon all the others will follow, iPhone 8, GoPro in a few years (

I don't know why, but it cuts half of the text I have written, anyway... I was saying that I hope that the 60fps will finally help 4K to its breakthrough

What are your first impressions? Do you like it?

P.S recently I read this super interesting article about DJI's and GoPro's history. Give it a look it's really worth it: https://goo.gl/AFzLVE

I don't know, but the Inspire 2 has sensores on the upper part. So maybe it's only for marketing reasons.

You are missing mentioning one key point...that the P4P uses H265 encoding (as well as still using H264) :-)

H265 encoding means that the 100 Mbsec video bitrate is used in a far more efficient way. It's almost like having a 200Mbsec H264 encoding (at least in theory)

Fingers crossed that the lens, focussing and other aspects all work together well for easy use and great images.

.... I almost feel sorry for GoPro now!

Thank you for this very interesting link. You are a fascinating poster and I hope to hear more from you. Like yourself, I'm interested in the evolution of tech and how INCREDIBLY fast this company learns and innovates.

I am concerned that like Chinese domination in table tennis, DJI's superiority will be so strong that they will kill off everyone (particularly high end European, New Zealand small companies) in the ecosystem. This may be good short term but longer term, it will lead to non-business issues that will loop back to affecting the whole industry.

Have you tried doing a chilled drone IMU calibration, followed directly by a gimbal calibration?

That has worked for many, with crooked horizon issues... ;-)

Yes, you're right!

Probably we can expect this feature on the Mavic 2 Pro in 2017. I am really looking forward to that. Hopefully I already received my Mavic Pro until then

You can send it the drone for DJI to calibrate, if the tilting is obvious and somewhat severe.

You don't see the bigger picture.. They need to be faster at innovating otherwise it will collapse their business and your hobby. Word on the streets that drones are dangerous. DJI need to prove to world that THEIR drones are safe by implementing dummy proof systems. They need to do this quick!! The more safer these drones are, the more sales they will get. The more sales, the more users and hopefully more positive news.

Maybe one day, we will see a drone walking a dog like in Back to the Future. I am sure DJI's tech will be seen in other platforms.

And the other picture you should see is Frank. Frank got bullied when he first stepped into this industry. Now he is on a mindset to crush everyone that laughed at him. He doesn't care, just as long as you have DJI product in your hands.

If your are trying to correct the crooked horizon, that's all about the gimbal...
Though a cold IMU calibration prior, seems to make it stick. ;-)
You need to do one right after the other.

I have never had a crooked horizon, and my gimbal always reacts like it is expected to. But having others follow these simple instructions has helped too many for me to count. It just works. Not a miracle, it's simply the nature of the beast!!

I understand the new Phantom 4 Pro has a new battery that has about 30 minutes of flight time.  They cost $169.  The P4Pro can use the older P4 batteries that have about 28 minutes of flight time and can be bought for almost $100.  You can buy 3 P4 batteries for the same cost of 2 P4Pro batteries.  What do you prefer, longer flight per battery (P4Pro at $169) or buy more batteries (P4 at $100)?

Well, if the difference is REALLY only 2 minutes, then 3 (superceded) batteries for the cost of 2 (new) batteries seems smarter to me...

I ordered the P4P and I currently have the P4 GPC back-pack...I was told that it will fit 100% w/o any issues...HOWEVER...I think that if you get the P4P+ the remote will NOT fit due to the incorporated screen.

Saw a pic/video on one of the blogs that showed the new screen actually folds down into a slightly smaller footprint than the old P4 screen holder alone...shouldn't be a problem for you

Hi,

I just received my P4P this afternoon.
I began the IMU calibration as it was told to do.
I tried it many times and I always get an error message : error code 22.
Let me say that I did it exactly as I was told, respecting the indicated direction of rotation.
Have you any idea of what happens ?
Thanks in advance,

Cheers
Isabelle

Hi,

I just received my P4P this afternoon.

Seems as if you were trying to calibrate it indoor. Maybe try to go outside or far away from electronic devices. Maybe there is some interference, that doesn't allow the compass (or any other sensor) to calibrate correctly.

There's no need to be outdoors to recalibrate the IMU.
It's quite safe to do it on your kitchen bench.
It just has to be level.

I normally calibrate IMU indoors but as I needed to do the compass it made sense to do both in the field, by the way, the compass calibration had to be done three times before it ended the process, still not %100 sure that went ok or not,
