Was watching a video on TESTED reviewing the P4P where one of the DJI product developers mentioned that the P4P with it's sensors builds-up/stores a map of it's surroundings over time using sensors and GPS data. He also seemed to imply that it remembers where it has been and becomes more aware over time. How true is this for the Mavic?

I don't think they've mentioned anything like that in the Mavic Pro or the Phantom 4. Have they?

Well, the name of the video is "What's new", so this should be a new feature.

Around the 11 minute mark "builds a depth map that persists over time..."

We ...

That's for the P4 Pro, the Inspire 2 does this as well. It memorizes its path so it can take that route for a return to home to minimize hitting anything.

I believe the P4P & Inspire 2 are the only ones able to do this due to their sensor suite.
The Mavic doesn't have the sideways IR sensor that they use to map the sides of the aircraft.
