Wow I live in S.Fla, was just up in Frnaklin and that smoke was horrible! Nice shots wish I had my drone for that time I was there to put some up like yours! I unfortunately ordered on 10-09 LMAO long wait to go. NICE SHOTS!!!

Nice shot. How high were you when you took those pictures? Would I say around a couple of hundred feet?

I was just in Rutherfordton NC for a weekend getaway to the wineries and hiking and was hoping to get the Mavic before the trip, but of course I am still waiting (ordered Oct 15th). When I was there I was thinking about how awesome the shots would be if I had the drone because of the fies. Here's a shot I took with my iPhone amidst the smokey wildfires at a winery anyway

I was about 200 feet I believe !

There is a lot of 'noise' in the first two pictures. Probably the internet compression or low light?

Yea, hindsight man. I may go back to the fires soon. I was sort of in a rush, and there were rangers, cops, and fire authorities all over the place. I was trying to be safe and inconspicuous and didn't think to use manual. I will be taking a manual longer exposure shot less ISO next time. The Mavic really can be stable enough for longer shutter times, it's quite amazing. Next time.

Nice pics. I hope you stayed low and away from the fire though. Here in CA, there's been a lot of news about drones getting in the way of firefighters and their aircrafts.

Thanks. Very much so. I'm very paranoid of flying near people or aircraft. I watch the sky like a hawk. I noticed a surveillance plane, and instantly took it down and packed up. I'm somewhat a wimp when it comes to flying near people, buildings, events, anything besides open nature.

Being a wimp here is a good thing. You or anybody shouldn't fly over or near people. (crowds) As for the fire, it's now against the law in most states to fly over or near anything that has responders. Can't remember if it's state laws or FAA. I do like the pictures, good job, and be safe.

We had had lots of fires in Oregon and just cannot put the drone in the air. Firefighters and air tankers are working 24/7 to put the fires out.

Last thing we want is to cause attention to the UAV in a bad way
