I finally have my mavic today.  After much anticipation it is finally sitting here on a desk...  I have not had a chance to do more than charge it up and update all firmware.   As i turned it on before heading to bed it keeps reading that battery authentication failed.  I guess i get to figure that one out in the morning.  Here is to hoping they start shipping them faster for everyone who is waiting.

The battery is fully-charged, right? have you tried to unplug it or plug again, or clean the connectors of the battery and the drone?
May I know the battery SN?
If still the same case, please upload a screenshot here, thanks.

Is it a joke? We don't expect that we need to do such thing to make it work with a brand new product.
Make QA wake up DJI.

Is each unit flight tested before it is given the OK to package?

If so, is it flight tested with the battery that it ships with?

WHAT A JOKE!  They want me to discharge and mail it back for service!  Never even got to turn it on.  Not very impressed with this product.  Not sure how this works.  The chat line is not very helpful.

It could be just battery. Have them send you another battery.

Knowing DJI they'll ask you to ship the whole kit back and you'll be without a Mavic til next year .

are you referring to the FAA registration or another activation?  I have gone through DJI refresh registration with it as well.

referring to the activation within the app when you first connect it?  That went through last night, but maybe it failed???  is there a way to try again or check it?  As of right now Apple and DJI want me to mail the whole package back and nobody wants to give me another battery to try.  I would rather not part with it and go back to the back of the line.  right now Apple is telling me a new one will be sent to me January 23rd.  They will not get me a replacement as they come in.

NO, there has to be a battery in the Mavic and powered on to activate.

Try this,
Delete the app and reinstall it and see if it asks to be activated.

this did not work.  did not ask me to be activated.  the online help just says to let battery run out and recharge.  I don't see how that would help anything.  I am open to try anything, but I have tried every firmware and doing reset to factory default.  I have no idea where to go from here.  I am not real happy with my purchase at this time.  They are telling me January 23rd to replace it.  This is crushing.

I believe it asks to activate the mavic itself when you first hook it up though.  I don't remember it was late last night.  I have no idea what the battery activation is though and nobody in service seems to know either.  I have talked to two different service people today and they just have me remove and reinstall the battery.  then say drain battery and recharge battery.  I feel like it is the dsl repair guy on phone.  please unplug your modem for 10 minutes and try again...

Why, the person said they didn't remember if they activated the Mavic.

So what you say is if we don't activate Mavic or may be P4, then it won't fly.
It sounds not right to me. I do agree we need to turn on aircraft so system can read S/N for activation and yes, battery is required to turn it on.
This is the process which DJI used to record and manage aircraft they sold and for later services.
However, battery authentication is a whole different process that Mavic microprocessor to communicate with battery to read and control charging for each cell.
It is exactly the same as laptop batteries. Laptop BIOS can detect non OEM batteries and reject it, so sometimes when you bought a non OEM battery, you have to run a software to hack BIOS to by pass BIOS check.

It was logical to me. It seems like the battery is defective or the intelligent circuit is bad somehow...

Not much to do in this case and if the battery is defective I doubt the aircraft is registered or activated

If i send back to apple they will send a replacement january 23.  I have no idea what to expect of DJI and a return at this point.  Since i am still waiting on my preorder as well.  DJI customer service was of no help and said to deal with the seller.  Opinions on return to DJI or Apple?

I have had great service from DJI's repair shop in LA. IMO if you send the Mavic to the repair Shop and it is only the battery ... you have the Mavic returned back to you in short order.

I would think that you would also get a return shipping label too.

There was a guy on this forum with a bad gimbal, he shipped it back to DJI and he already got a new one back, so he wasn't put back to the end of the line. So I would return it to DJI for sure.

I think it was because he purchased directly from DJI.  Since he purchased from Apple, I doubt he will get the same fast exchange.

When I had the Phantom 4, I had a problem where C1 would constantly ask if I want it to access something.  They told me to uninstall the DJI go app and reinstall.  It fixed the problem.

With the Mavic, I had a problem not seeing Tripod Mode.  They told me to uninstall the app and reinstall.  It fixed the problem.

Something is really weird...  The fact that the Mavic is connecting to your controller and it showing on the screen, does that mean it's powering on?
When you press and press hold the power on the Mavic, does it power on?  What does it say on the controller if they both turn on?  Does it say connecting?

If I were you, I would try everything before returning.

Why not take your Mavic into the store you bought it from, and ask them to let you try another battery from a display model in your Mavic?

I tried the uninstall of the dji go app. DJI had reccomended the same thing. No change.
Yes the drone powers on and goes through imu Calibration.  Searches for gps. The red light keeps blinking red. I can see camera view on the phone. There is a red alert on top of phone.  When I click on it there it takes me to a section that shows the battery error. I can try to power up motors and a small warning pops up saying battery authentication failed.

What does it say on the battery screen?  Can you post a screen shot of that?

Is it the drone battery fail or controller battery fail?

I believe it is the drone battery that is not working right. Or the drone isn't working correctly.

so... i sent it back to DJI.  They received it in 3 days.  PERFECT.  They analyzed it the same day.  Perfect.  They notified me that a repair order was generated... perfect i think.  Now the email says wait 24-48 hours for an invoice.  WHAT???  24-48 hours for an invoice?  first i hope it is free since the drone never worked.  second, just fix it and send it back.  Is there some way to escalate this that anyone knows?  I contacted the chat line and they told me the same thing.  I just do not understand.

Could "invoice" be DJI speak for "tracking info"?  I would hope so!  Or like you said, it better be $0!
