Does anyone know/think it would be possible to shoot h265 on the Mavic with a firmware update - would this improve data rate/quality/file sizes etc. Or is the processing power too much? I note Philip Bloom commented that the existing codec wasn't up to the task of the d-log profile and wonder if h265 would help?

I'm sure people with more tech brains than I can suggest answers?

don't think that would be a possibility. It's likely a hardware bottleneck than a software bottleneck that could be compensated using a firmware update.

If you are referring to H.264 codec, I doubt that would be possible. I''m pretty sure recording that codec requires more hardware.

It's not the codec as such. H264 is perfectly capable it's DJI have limited the MAVIC to outputting 60Mbps. That is what I used when shooting 1080p on an action cam. 4K needs 100Mbps or more to make it worthwhile. That being said 1080p on the Mavic looks poor. 2.7k is decent but is held back by the limited bitrate.

transcode 4k to H.264 that's what most Youtubers and video people I know do.
