Was just flying my P4 when I lost all contact with it.  Tried RTH, nothing.  I did the land where it was and must have got that signal.  I was flying over a small field and went there and found it.  As I drove up to the field I started getting a video signal and later found it just off the field upside down.  Is there anyway that I can see the flight log?  I know I've got to send it back to DJI but would like to see what happened.

Follow the instructions here to upload file to Phantomhelp, some of the experienced pilots here might be able to suggest what happened.

http://www.phantomhelp.com/LogViewer/Upload/

You can also view a flight record of the route in DJO Go.

You should be able to see it in editor if you were recording, you also can play back your flight through your logs, not to sure if you will get the bit were you lost the signal, also remember to sync your flight.

Were you using the Go app? You should be able to play back the flight to see if there were any error messages that may have been missed. Have you already gotten started with a RMA?

He said he lost contact and then tried RTH, but it landed where it was. Pressing RTH when signal is lost would do nothing, as you know. Sounded like the default was to land on lost signal...

Agreed, but I'm thinking it did what it was set to do - to land if signal is lost. That's impied by what was said, but he may have thought he did it. Anyway, I'm sure the poster can confirm.

Regardless, it's an unwise default. What if the signal was lost over the ocean or a lake?

It also may have been running short of battery if this happens it will just land.

True, but to clarify my understanding. It'll land if that's all the power it has left to do so. If you have Smart RTH enabled, once it detects low battery based on how far away it is, it'll RTH if nothing is done for 10 seconds. But if it hits a heavy wind on the way, it'll be landing short of you...

I was using the go app.  I just looked at the flight log in the app.  At the time I lost signal it says max altitude reached.  3 seconds later GPS disconnect (inflight) (using).  at 94 seconds Command timeout.  Then 3 minutes later another warning command timeout.

Have you used RTH before?
If you aren't familiar with the way the button works you might think it was activated when it wasn't.
If you follow the instructions given in post #2 above you can see exactly what happened instead of guessing and probably being wrong.
You can also post a link if you need help with it.

How far out were you when it disconnected? Are there any nearby towers around the field you were flying? To get started with a RMA, you can email the North American Support team either via support.us@dji.com or call +1 (818) 235 0789.

I was out about 2500 feet.  I have flown this same area a number of times.  There are no towers within miles of the place.  Very rural area.

What does the command time out mean?

That normal means that the unit was trying to perform an action, but it could not complete it.
