Hi all

I had my P3S replaced by the retailer because of repeated (and easily repeatable) compass errors causing a drop into Atti and unreliable GPS readings. DJI offered a RMA but given the Phantom was new I opted to have it replaced.

The replacement has exactly the same issue - I can induce the compass error at will.

For info, this is on FW 1.7.90 and DJI Go 3.1.0 on IOS. IMU was calibrated and compass calibration was correct. Test flights were done in 3 different locations, all at least 1/3 mile from any metal, reinforced concrete etc. no metal objects on my person and calibrated 20 feet away from the TX, phone, flight bag etc.

Here's the question: Is the P3 compass succeptible to cold? I ask because the errors increase as the temperature drops. To test that, between flights I held the compass in my hand for a few minutes to raise it's temp and the frewuency of errors/ease of reproduction dropped, but increased as the flight progressed.

As the errors increased the arrow in the DJI Go radar moved about 10 degrees off to clockwise compared to the actual heading.

Temp outside was 7C dropping to about 5C.
Also, I believe the compass is sold as Part 29, although the description of this item says Pro/Adv. Is that the correct item? I intend to buy it separately to see if that improves things.

I would have gone the DJI RMA route. Better odds for getting a properly functioning compass that way.

That is still an option, my RMA ticket is good for another 3 weeks.
It's my last resort though - sending to Netherlands over christmas means I'll likely be without it until after I return from holiday in mid-Jan, a fate worse than Christmas TV

You seem to be having tones of trouble with your P3A.Get a refund..  I would treat yourself to a P3A and be done with it. It would save you time an heart ache. Worth it in the end.

Did you contact the tech support and send it in?

Hi, yes I did speak to DJI support, but rather than send it away I had it replaced by the retailer under U.K. Consumer law
