Currently you have to choose between either active track or gps if you want to have the drone follow a subject. It would be neat if there were a hybrid version of this mode.
The way that I envision it working is that GPS based follow is the baseline mode, but it would use activetrack to keep the subject framed. If the subject is lost, it falls back to GPS based follow, but uses the GPS data to attempt to reacquire the subject for activetrack. This seems like something that should be possible, and it would make those modes much more useful.
