After buying the BestBuy black edition, I have been told by DJI they do not have a DJI care for that version!  So be warned if you want both!

That's interesting, if not disturbing.

Wonder if the Best Buy Blacks are a gray import direct from China to them and not through the USA distributor who may not warranty or even fix them?  SanDisk pulls the same "No support" on cards brought into the USA not through Western Digital and through their channels.  It's on their website too, and Best Buy sells some re-branded SanDisk Pixel which is expensive and maybe a SanDisk Extreme Pro model.  I've exchanged bad memory cards at their counter before and never had an issue yet, but sending it off to SanDisk might be a problem.  A Phantom though, hmmm...

I have been sent the official email from DJI stating that the DJI care is not available for the black edition. I assume the one year warranty on pars and labor is valid as it is mentioned in the manual. But no protection to purchase from Best Buy or DJI for user crashes.

Since you are in the US, you can insure it with State Farm under a personal property policy. Mine is insured for $60 a year with no deductible.

What OP referring is DJI Care Refresh, which is different from the product warranty.
And we are working on the Refresh service now, so that customers with black edition can purchase the Care Refresh soon.

On 12/26/16 I purchased a DJI Phantom 4 - Black Edition from Best Buy in Levittown New York. --
Please confirm if DJI Care  is available Black edition?

There is no mention from Best Buy or DJI offically saying that there is no DJI care for Black edition.

Otherwise I probably will return the unit.

I just received a Black Edition unit from Best Buy as a gift as well. The only place I can locate anything for it is Best Buy itself. I asked DJI through chat and they told me they didn't carry anything for the Black Edition. I just purchased an extra battery through Best Buy. Thank you @js349 for the State Farm personal property idea! I didn't know I could get it covered that way.

DJI Care is now available for the special edition Phantom 4 black model offered for sale by Best Buy. You need to send an email to djicare@dji.com, then they will ask you for the drone's serial number. Once provided, you will have 48 hours to make your purchase. I was able to purchase DJI Care for my black P4 in this manner.

Any luck on getting a black shell?  I need one as well.

I talked to a repair shop in Houston and they said 4-6 weeks before they have them available.  They are on order.
