It has been a minute since I have changed the gimbal roll speed and I have updated the DJI Go app and phantom 4 firmware in the meantime. Now  I can't seem to find the gimbal roll speed setting. When I pan down the speed is way too fast. In the past I was able to slow this down using the gimbal roll speed. Can anyone provide some insight. Thanks.

OK. I checked the app on my phone which isn't connected. I recall seeing those settings when using my P4 on the weekend and recall wondering the same thing. I suspect the options have been renamed but I'll have to defer to the more clever'er ones here now...

I suspected the same thing, but wasn't positive. Another item, when modifying the settings above you don't get the same expected results as the previous gimbal roll setting. Now when panning down or up there is a lag before it actually stops panning.

Ah, yes - I can confirm that. That was irritating when videoing last weekend - I had to start allowing for the lag.

Please help confirm the APP version and aircraft firmware version before you upgraded and the current version as well, thanks.

I can't be positive on the version but it would only be 1 maybe 2 versions back on the app/firmware. The gimbal roll speed was definitely there on one of those previous versions.

The current version of the DJI Go app that I am running is 3.1.1.

AC firmware is most recent (need to check version number when the bird is next powered up, but I've been diligent), and the GO app was 4.0.0. (iOS) But...

So with my iPad on 4.0.0, when it's disconnected from the P4, I see the original gimbal advanced settings (with gimbal speed as first option), but when connected I see the different screen earlier in the post (with gimbal pitch EXP as first option). So I upgraded my iPad to GO 4.0.1 released yesterday, and when disconnected I now see the different screen (with pitch EXP) straight up.

But I left my iPhone on GO 4.0.0. So, I currently have my iPad (with GO 4.0.1) sitting right next to my iPhone (with GO 4.0.0). With neither connected to the P4, the gimbal speed setting appears under Advanced settings on iPhone, but doesn't on the iPad.
Edit: AlecW just confirmed the change, but I still suspect that screens may be tailored on-the-fly depending on what craft is connected.

This seems a bit confusing. I have emailed DJI and will hopefully get clarification. I think they need to fix or add this control back in the app. Also, I'm not sure if you noticed but now there is a lag in the response when you let go of the gimbal control. Before it stopped on a dime.

I haven't tried the new DJI Go 4.0, what's different that the DJI Go 3.1.1. I see they are two different apps in the iTunes app store.

It was doing that with GO 4.0.0 too. Last weekend, what I was doing was to anticipate the lag by taking my finger off the wheel earlier.

I think this Gimbal Pitch Smoothness existed in earlier versions and I missed it dearly when they removed it.
I think It's great that it speeds up and slows down smoothly when you start/stop pitching the camera.
It's much more movie-like compared to a quick start/stop. :-)

Hi, by using or setting the 'Gimbal pitch expo' and the 'Gimbal pitch smoothness' you can achieve the no lag (or gimbal over run) that you currently are having.
The settings to achive this (no lag) will be completly different to the ones you are used to using.

Thanks Nigel. Want to suggest some settings which sorts this for you?

Why change something that was a perfect working setting we are all used to and worked better?  KISS (keep it simple stupid) methodology is ultimately the best.

Thanks for querying Natalia. As per the query above, why was it removed? Is it because the same capability (of slowing down the gimbal for cinematic effect) is achieved with the new options, and if so which?
If the engineers can't advise, I'll just need to play around...

Agreed.  I'd be happy to learn DJI's new way of getting the settings correct.  However, after six phone calls and three internet support sessions and not one supervisor or manager telling me how to correct it...I'm hesitant to let them play this off as a purposeful thing.  A product specialist told me on a support call that even his assistants at DJI were calling him asking the same thing we are.  It was a mistake that needs to be corrected.  I may sound like a stern jerk to some, however, when it comes to a company that I invested in (and owns 80% of the international drone marketplace) I expect the truth..not lies and confusion for weeks.

Yeah, it's a challenge for all tech support services. The reality is that the staff on the desks are unlikely to be across all changes  between various versions of hardware and software, nor the effect of changes on the other. Further, the people are unlikely to be flyers themselves so wouldn't appreciate the finer nuances of each feature - the first call will be the triage, and if it's not in the manual, they probably can't help you without escalating to the next support tier (after they've stepped you through the basics).
I'm resigned to the fact that this forum is best positioned to answer this particular question through experimentation. I'll let you all know if I get time this weekend...

I finally received a response for the email I sent to DJI and I was told the feature still exists which contradicts Natalia's response. This seems to happen a lot. However as well all know it definitely does not exist anymore. Regardless I messed with the settings and was able to make it workable.

I used gimbal pitch exp 30 and gimbal pitch smoothness 20. This allowed for a slow smooth pan up or down with minimal lag which is controllable. hopefully that works for you as well.

That option is not available on the APP, but you can adjust it in another way instead.
From the Gimbal Settings, choose Advanced, then Gimbal Pitch EXP.
The Smoothness is the reaction when you let go or stop the wheel. You probably want some smoothness so when filming if you let go of the wheel or stop it, it makes a ease to stop movement instead of a abrupt stop.

you can stop the lag by setting the Gimbal Pitch EXP to 5, then just use the Gimbal pitch smoothness to adjust the speed, ive got mine set at 5 and 15 respectively and that gives me a nice smooth gimbal control with no lag... much better than the previous controls
