Just downloaded the new 4.0 app update and it now appears that it automatically auto focuses every so often. I'm sure this will make a lot of people happy.

As I recall, there is a setting in the DJI Go 4 app (under the camera options tab) to switch to manual focus.

I know that some people have problems with the tap-to-autofocus, but I definitely don't want continues focus (=> focus hunting) in videos if that is what the talk is about?? It should only change focus when I tell it to.

It's an app update for the DJI 4.0 app on your phone or tablet.

I see no update for the app is this for IOS? android still shows 4.0.0

No problem, It's dark out and I tried a quick flight and I didn't notice a difference with both the Gain in Cinematic Mode or Course Angular Velocity with the sliders in various positions.
I'll do more testing in the day.

Subscribing for more info.  I also agree that constant/random refocusing could be a bit odd but I'm interested to see how it works.  For instance, say you are in a mode where it's following a subject, does it continue to refocus on the POI?

I haven't tried the Manual Focus option in the app and I don't have the drone here to try, but isn't that fully manual with a slider to adjust focus? That seems to much (and absolutely unnecessary) trouble, I think. Tap-to-(auto)focus is clearly the smartest way in my opinion. If DJI are going to add Continuous Focus to the Android app, at least add it as an extra option so we have:

1) Manual Focus
2) Normal Autofocus (tap-to-focus)
3) Continuous Focusing

Removing the normal tap-to-focus would be a really stupid thing.

So the Normal tap to focus has been removed in favour of continuous auto-focus? Hope that's not true. Why to have continuous and maybe erratic autofocus?

If you have manual focus enabled then it will stay on the last thing you've focused on.
With auto focus, I've noticed that if you sit still it will focus, then when you are moving it will refocus every so often. I like it.

Everything you listed is still available, the slider is there on manual focus. Tap to focus is still there in both auto and manual focus. and in auto it does a continuous focus as your view changes.

If you're recording video, and it auto focuses while you're filming, does it show that it is focusing in the video? I don't want it to be hunting back and fourth while I'm filming.

In video mode it will focus where you tap and if the distance to the object changes in this "tap area" it will focus again.
But there is no back and forth or pumping focus to see in the video. And yes it shows focusing when its doing that.

Well, I can say that I really like it. I'm fairly busy concentrating on the flight and forget to focus...hell, I even have to tape a reminder on the RC to turn on the camera..just pitiful.

Glad your happy with it, and that's good you have a reminder to turn on the camera

I think the exposure setting only being available in manual mode may be the deal killer for many though.  It is nice to lock exposure on a bright cloud or something similar.  You can tap to focus or fly around in auto focus, but the only to move the exposure area is to put it in manual focus or center your shot on your exposure area and then lock exposure.

If manual focus is enabled, and you select manual focus and bring up the focus slider, it will no longer auto focus and you use the slider to focus.
