I have now had about 35 good flights with my greate Phantom 2 Vision + V3 - but this video is about one of my very first flights. It was a nearly stupid crash and I am sharing it for others to learn from my stupidity.
I was to preform a waypoint flight - and I had set up the waypoints with good groundclearance - . I new that the phantom was to go to the first waypiont in a gradually ascending path - still I somehow manage to set the first waypoint to fare away from me. The result was a nearly Crash.

Lesson learned !!!!

Or - (as I do now) set the first waypoint close to homepoint.
By the way I am not using waypoints much any more.

I have the capability, but haven't used them yet.  I fly close in for video.
Went for a short test yesterday,  first time I have been flying since mid December.  Got the Charlie Brown's Christmas trees covered in snow.

"Nearly" ????

Look like a face plant on the hillside.  The fact you kept flying is just lucky.  I am confused, after the face plant why did you not get some altitude and avoid at least the weeds so you could check you bird out for damage?

Yes you can wonder - I was in shock and all went so fast. Did not really se it happen before it was to late and did not see how bad it was before I could se the video. Lucky - that is the word. I hope I have learned a lesson.

Thanks for sharing that one!  If ever I saw a case for prop guards it was that.  You hit the hill at a fair turn of speed , bounced off and then continued flying through weeds and grass at ground level pretty much.

There is no way an unguarded bird could have done that- there would have been broken props on the first impact.  amazing bit of footage. (no judgement here either, we all make mistakes!)

Cheers!

Good thing you weren't doing some wing suit flying with a GoPro on your helmet!

I think my face looked like your monkey just watching that hillside coming in the video.

This is the wrong post,
but we won't boast,
The snow is really cold,
but we are not that bold.

Rod looks like a pussycat

I have been called worse---much worse!
The cat is my beloved Pandora, a rescue cat  that was badly mistreated.  She lives with my other cat in a sort of grudging tolerance.

Cheers!

Yes extremely lucky indeed. And it should have been avoided as I knew about the way Phantom is ascending to the waypoints.

Always a good idea to make the first way point very close to home point and at altitude then it will gain altitude like a normal takeoff almost.
