Everyone in the CE mode areas complained so much about the FW 1.6.8 messing with their drone's range, and some in FAA mode area did too. From my reading of many posts my findings have been those that had range issues on 1.6.8 are now doing much better. I've been reading more lately of some having range issues with the newer FW 1.7.9 but don't get the feeling it's the FW this time, but just bad installs from corrupt downloads or installs. And many being impatient waiting for this FW to download and used the SD card method (NOT the correct method) and not the Go app via wifi as designed. Thus corrupting their install also. Please input two votes, one question is line 1 or 2 or 3, and the other is line 4 or 5.

s doing 3000+ft and this issue was 800ft scared the crap out of me. i never had that for it would just lose signal on control and return home every time this time it didn't

Getting just shy of one hundred meters extra range using 1.7.9, flying in the same field with pretty much the same conditions, stock Tx no range enhancement equipment.

I waited over a week for the update banner, it never came so I updated via SD card and then could not link my controller to the bird afterwards. I sent it to a DJI repair facility and they updated it for me......distance has been significantly less since then

With my first P3s, I updated via SD from 1.6.8 to 1.7.9 beta and a week later started having multiple compass errors when I rotated the AC, usually at the same heading every time. After a couple weeks of down and up dating via SD card, I sent it in under warranty and not being able to rid the unit of the problem, DJI sent me another RC and AC that already had updated firmware and now it's perfect. I'm now a firm believer in letting things alone or waiting for the GO app to do the updates. It's funny that things can change in as little as a week, when I first got my replacements, it would not show firmware version in the app, then bingo, a week later it showed the FW version. I really don't think the new FW is the problem, it's how the update is performed that results in issues. I don't plan on ever upgrading via SD card again.     

The latest version of the GO app 3.1.1 plus fw 1.7.9 seams to have fixed everything exept the google maps. The map now follows your drone again YAY! And the orientation is correct but the maps them selves are years out of date.
With fw 1.6.8 my range was 250-300 meters in perfect conditions after installing fw 1.7.9 I could fly 500m+ in good conditions.   

We all know my view. I found it has made no difference to range and is still poor like the 1.6.8. Older versions were much better but DJI have stopped us being able to downgrade and go back.

"The map now follows your drone again" Are you 100% on that?? I just uninstalled Go 3.1.1 and installed version 3.0.1 just because of this very issue. Here maps, not following and drone icon orientation being wrong. Now with 3.0.1 all is right, and I have Google maps.

Yup i'm sure on my combination of set up the map now follows the phantom (samsung s5 , DJI Go 3.1.1 and fw 1.7.9).
Previous version i had to zoom right out on the Map to find the bird. I would love to have google maps back instead of here maps but I want to give 3.1.1 a thourough workout before going back to the trusty , reliable old v2.9

Thanks for the reply and info. After going through the uninstall and re-install not sure I'm going to reverse it right away. Just figured going back one version to 3.0 was good, but like you said 2.9 was also good.

I never had much luck with 1.6.8 - 1.5.7+ was very solid for me 2-3 different quads Currently on latest mission started dropping signal around 5300' came right back..
I was thinking that's pretty good. S5 device..previous go app and 1.7.9 on P3S cheers D

And the vote here is 14 to 2 in favor of the new FW being the same or better than the previous version with range.
Just goes to my point the people that have a issue are more motivated to start a thread than the vast majotity that are not having any issues.

Sorry but I strongly dissageee with that, it's 10 to 6 saying no better with 1.7.9. If you remember we all know 1.6.8 had range issues so if people say it's the same it's still bad...... in fact I believe this proves my point 100 %

Only those in the CE modes areas had those issues, must of us in the states with FCC mode had far fewer issues. I for one had great range with all the FW's I've used, I think four now. But your right now that I think about it, could have worded the polling thread a bit different.

Interesting if in the states it worked ok but not for a lot of other countries - never thought of that and may be DJI should look into that possibility.

As FCC mode has more power (watts) it does make sense. I added to more questions to the poll, so we'll see what happens.

I voted before you added 4&5. Cannot update my vote........1.7.9 is now unacceptable

Interesting because it seems the majority here who are having problems are in the States.
