so, since for what im doing atm, i dont need 4k, i decided to go with 2K. now looking at the possible 2K modes leaves me quite confused. maybe one of you video-gurus can enlightne me.


i am planning to film in 60fps wich gives me these two options:

h.265 2720×1530 48/50/60p @80Mbps  or  h.264 2720×1530 48/50/60p @100Mbps

from my understanding the h.265 will deliver better reults than the h.264, on the other hand the h.265 codec has 20 mbps less than the h.264. so wich one now actually give me better results? why are the mbps lower with the h.265 codec?




further i have noticed in the specs: h.265 2720×1530 24/25/30p @65Mbps whereas h.264 2720×1530 24/25/30p @80Mbps.

why is the mbps lower at lower fps settings? simply because less data needs to be captured/transferred?


if so, why is the mbps for c4k and 4k video for all fps at 100mbps, no matter if h.265 or h.264?

H.265 (HEVC) is more efficient.  

A 2.7k 48/50/60p H.265 bitrate equivalent with H.264 would be about 150Mbps.
A 2.7k 24/25/30p H.265 bitrate equivalent with H.264 would be about 120Mbps.

Not exact, but ballpark figures for perspective.

a 80mbps h.265 is equivalent to approx 150 mbps h.264 you mean? did i get that right?

I am not certain but that is a 30% decrease in bitrate output. but I'm fairly sure h265 is considered to be almost a 50% improvement over h265. So I would think that could be to do with the native bit rate for 2.7k which wouldn't be 100mbps as that is a base line for 4k which the P4 Pro reaches. (Above bitrate this is SSD territory)
The h265 will give you better quality. even at 65 its effective bit rate is >100 while h264 @ 80 is not even close.

Yes and it is clearly evident in the footage.  H.265 looks sharper, has more info contained in the file (easily seen in foliage/leaves), and the colors are more accurate/true.

the only thing im still wondering is why are they not all on 100mbps when the camera i capable of that?

Just another note:

I get just over 5 minutes per 4GB 4k HEVC file depending on what the camera "sees."  And it'll look like RAW footage (vs compressed)...  It's SO CLEAR!  

*And it sure looks like D-Cinelike, 4k, HEVC provides the absolute most amount of dynamic range.
