There are a couple of things your friend can do.
1. Buy a drone kit which fits nicely to the GoPro session, for example, if you have a look at the following drone build, you can see that the frame allows for a great attachment of the GoPro Session, you can see the final result here.

You could also opt for buying a personal drone which attaches to the GoPro nicely.
Just like a few people have pointed, there's plenty of drones which can cater for a GoPro, including but not limited to:
1- The Phantom 3 like you suggested with a specific attachment for GoPro
2- The GoPro Karma 2 (hopefully it doesn't kill itself like the GoPro Karma 1 :-)
3- The Yuneec Typhoon G
4- Syma X8G - with specific attachments for GoPro
5- Ionic Stratus Drone
There's lot more choice, but the above are definitely great choices!
