UPDATE: A factory reset and start-again seems to have fixed both the video lag and the size of the video preview. I am almost ready to try a a flight, but as I am working from home (it's that time of year) and the weather is overcast I will wait until tomorrow morning when the sun is forecast to be out.
Well, I got them today and first impressions are, on balance, negative. They are well made and the package is good overall.
There is no Google certification and so no Play Store or apps. The DJI app in the Moverio store is DJI Go 3.x and side loading 4 does not work (it crashes). The DJI Go app is laggy with the Mavic, the video feed being seconds behind. I have not tried the P4 yet. I have done a factory reset and just reinstalling to make sure it's nothing left over in the unit. While the picture is full screen for 4:3 photos, when I switched to video the preview shrunk to the middle 50% of the screen.
Their ecosystem (the Moverio store) is poor and sparse. The store has bugs and annoyances. They obviously didn't want to pay to have the device certified, it is seemingly a specialist item for development at the moment, like the previous versions.
In terms of comfort and visibility, the nose pads are tight on my big head and as the two screens are fixed and have no inter-pupil adjustment I have to be quite careful with the orientation on my head to get a full clear picture.
Epson & DJI need to pull their collective finger out if their publicised deal will ever bear real fruit. |
