Well, the e-mail came through yesterday for my UK pre-order saying I can go for it. After a 24 hour delay while customer services fixed a pricing issue I have placed the order. I am hoping it arrives next week in the days I am working from home. More later.

What was the pricing issue? When I ordered it in Sept I was originally quoted £638 but eventually the price was stated at £719

That was the pricing issue I raised, but since I bought the pre-order voucher while the web page said £639 they said they would honour the original price which they had already confirmed in November but I needed to verify the purchase process - which involved getting a refund are purchase.

How will you connect to Mavic RC (no HDMI)?

The BT-300 glasses are a self contained Android "tablet" (but not Google Certfified, so no Play Store without hacks). You just connect to the USB as any other device and run the Go app which is in their own app store, but it's not clear which Go app this is and if it will be kept up to date along side the main Play Store version.

I kept screen shots of the £638 price so I will contact Epson to get a refund on the difference

UPDATE: A factory reset and start-again seems to have fixed both the video lag and the size of the video preview. I am almost ready to try a a flight, but as I am working from home (it's that time of year) and the weather is overcast I will wait until tomorrow morning when the sun is forecast to be out.

Well, I got them today and first impressions are, on balance, negative. They are well made and the package is good overall.

There is no Google certification and so no Play Store or apps. The DJI app in the Moverio store is DJI Go 3.x and side loading 4 does not work (it crashes). The DJI Go app is laggy with the Mavic, the video feed being seconds behind. I have not tried the P4 yet. I have done a factory reset and just reinstalling to make sure it's nothing left over in the unit. While the picture is full screen for 4:3 photos, when I switched to video the preview shrunk to the middle 50% of the screen.

Their ecosystem (the Moverio store) is poor and sparse. The store has bugs and annoyances. They obviously didn't want to pay to have the device certified, it is seemingly a specialist item for development at the moment, like the previous versions.

In terms of comfort and visibility, the nose pads are tight on my big head and as the two screens are fixed and have no inter-pupil adjustment I have to be quite careful with the orientation on my head to get a full clear picture.

Epson & DJI need to pull their collective finger out if their publicised deal will ever bear real fruit.

Well, I've had a couple of flights - indoors at the office and a couple of quick flights from my back garden. Overall it works but the DJI Go app (3.1.0) is a bit fragile and I would very much hope they keep it updated and also offer the option of version 4. Things that are fragile: portrait mode rotates the camera but the preview stays landscape and so the image is sideways (but all the data stays in place); I have one reoccurance of the laggy preview - exiting and restarting the app fixed it this time; Also, sometimes when first connecting the RC the preview video will start out small, only about 50% of the screen area - again all the data is OK and in place.

Aside from the DJI app I'm finding the glasses quite heavy and without an easily adjustable nose clip it's only bearable as opposed to comfortable. Not sure how long I could wear it. I may try watching a film in bed tonight just as a test. Oh, as an aside Plex installed from the APK ok So does Firefox but it's quite slow. I wanted to test 3D videos but YouTube will not play via the standard browser and on Firefox it hangs - Vimeo is unbearably slow.

I see great potential but at the moment they feel very much like a developer targeted gadget, not a product.

The "root" procedure online for the BT-200 model does not work on the BT-300s. I also tried towelroot with no success. I would very much like to sideload the google stack but for now I am happy just using them as is. I will keep a lookout and if you find anything...

Hi peter thanks for your reply.. I tried chrome APK and it works with youtube perfectly no lags watching videos, I also installed Kodi and again 0 lag was able to watch a movie.  I agree on the nose clip not adjustable and uncomfortable, I have a deviated septum and its hard to find the sweet spot..

Thanks, but that just gets apks off one phone and onto the BT-300s, which while welcome is pretty basic and doesn't require root. It doesn't help install the google ecosystem like Play Store to have auto updating and dependencies etc... Still lookong

Peter I have this same problem with mine in as much that there is about a 10 second delay on the video feed and the size of video view. I have tried the factory reset on the Moverio and reinstalled Go but still no fix. Have you heard of anyone else having the same problems as me?

Thanks for the suggestion Peter, I'll give that a go to see how I get on. I see Epson are saying there the GO4 version of the app available at the end of January so that may also help.

Yeah, I also have had an open support ticket with them since the week after getting the glasses about the "tap to mute" function - if you can test yours that may help.

You have to go into Settings -> Language and Input and turn on "tap to mute". Then, supposedly, gently tapping the right side of the glasses behind the camera, is supposed to mute the video and audio. On minne I have to HIT it hard twice - to the point the glasses hurt my nose and move. I have had mixed responses from the UK support people, from the helpful to the rude. I have escalated it, but I don't think they are geared up for consumers (and consumer regulations) :-)

On the one hand the weather in London is not conducive to flying or planning weekend trips out to the countryside to fly; On the other hand Epson have sat on my support request for the tap-to-mute issue now for the whole of January. The occasional escalation gets me an apology and a holding response. No DJI Go 4 in the app store yet - and no DJI Go 3 update either.

Expensive toy, fun but not yet recommended to those without spare money

Just got a response from Epson UK that includes this:
In response to your email, I can confirm that this has been escalated up and we can confirm that  this is not a fault with the unit, due to the feedback provided we have escalated this further.
There is the potential we may realise an update where the sensitivity of the tap may be adjusted via the on-board menu, but there is no current timescale of this as of yet.

OK, moving on. I received my rather expensive 3D printed "universal DJI mount" via DJI's promotional e-mail pointing to https://www.sculpteo.com/en/gallery/public/Moverio7/ - I "upgraded" the material to aluminium powdered and the finish is very nice. A total of about £70 after upgrade and shipping, which is 10% of the cost of the BT-300s but in for a penny in for a pound I guess.

To complete the combination I have ordered a couple of (one "down" and one "left") angled micro usb extensions to allow my right hand a proper grip.

I have photos but have to shrink them to allow them to be uploaded.

Oh,  DJI Go 4 side loading works fine as long as you install the Rotation Lock app from the app store and fix it to Landscape. It crashes just after first start up and agreeing to the license, but after that it's fine (not flown yet!)

I couldn't shrink the photos of the 3D printed mount, so here's a dropbox album instead: https://www.dropbox.com/sc/4u0q0 ... p_GTN2O2wqH3czd2Fea

I have obviously not done proper product photos, the white balance is random - the surface is a nice light grey

I haven't had time to watch the video review yet, but just to say that yesterday I got a set of the special polarised shades through the kindness of Epson US - I am in the UK but ended up on the US mailing list and got Eric's e-mail - after a reply and conversation he offered to look into the cost of sending me a pair of the shades that they are gifting the US pre-order customers for waiting. They arrived by Fedex yesterday and just wow. These are quality and I look forward to trying them once the sun is shining in the UK

Okay, i maps are now working on my BT-300 !
Here is how i managed it:
I thought to myself: "probably that *§$% Go Maps need google play store informations...
Then it came to my mind that i used a hack to use Apps on my Amazon FireTV Stick that require play store.
I went to that site (its in german, may use google translate) and followed the few steps to install play store support.

(So KUDOS goes to aftvhacks.de !!!!! )

Go to http://aftvhacks.de/fire-tv-downloads/  in the browser.

scroll to the section "Google Play Store ".

Follow the steps, basically download & install apk's (you need to allow install from unknown sources in the settings).

I'll outline the steps here:

First dload & Install google play services
reboot
Dload & install google account manager
install google Services Framework
Install google play store

Start the play store and enter your google credentials.
The play store will NOT run but your credentilals will be registered.

Then clear cache & data for DJI go (first backup stuff if you need to rescue flight records or the like).

Start DJI GO, at least for me everything was great, offline maps showed selection of continents/countries/region and i downloaded my usual maps.
Maps are fine and look and feel internationalized (German in my case).

All this was done on DJI GO 4.0.7 but i guess it will work with older versions as well.

I guess this link does something similar (englisg site) but i did not bother to try:

http://www.aftvnews.com/how-to-i ... stick-without-root/

Hope it works for you guys as well !

Nils

P.S. this may means we can get litchi to run as well...

I updated firmware for the Moverio, the P4P Controller, and the P4P drone and the DJI GO 4 App.  Finally ... everything worked including being able to go in and out of various Intelligent Flight Modes in the DJI GO 4 App.  The only draw back now is that the Epson Moverio BT-300 is not certified by Google so you can't use Google Maps in the map view.  Hopefully, that will come soon.  Another issue, which may be a documentation issue, is the use of the Moverio glasses to take video and save it offline.

Search for "hdml-cloner wand"
Prices vary from $60 to $150 so look for a good offer or renamed clone !
