Hello-

I'm looking for a recommendations as to which FW version I should upgrade to.  I'm concerned about problems I have read about with version Phantom 3 Professional Firmware v1.10.90  2016-11-29.

Below are the other options from the DJI website.

Phantom 3 Professional Firmware v1.9.60  2016-06-13

Phantom 3 Professional Firmware v1.8.80  2016-04-07

Phantom 3 Professional Firmware v1.3.20  2015-08-04

Thank you for the help!!!

I also was not so sure about doing the update out of the box. but I can thankfully say that my update went perfectly and the drone flies great. the only glitch I have come across is my rth button on my remote doesn't work but the app does. I'll take that as seen all the trouble some people have had.

I did the most recent update 11/29 out of the box three days ago. Happy to say no issues. Have had three flights since all with success. ONLY Flew to Altitude of 98 ft . Got Scared , brought it down. Being very cautious .
Take Baby steps at first after your update. Only fly very low for a while in case you have issues.

Low and Slow is always good during any kind of testing. Please keep in mind that your Phantom will most likely reach terminal velocity before it falls 100' making it no different than if it fell 400' or 1000' (not that anyone would ever fly above 400' mind you). Being cautious is the better side to lean to, but don't be afraid to have some fun too! Happy Flying!

I would suggest getting something like a H8 Mini to practice with. They are very cheap on Banggood these days. If you can learn to control those jumpy little things, flying the Phantom will be a piece of cake. Also if you lose GPS and have to fly in ATTI mode, what you learn about keeping it oriented will be invaluable. I use mine to keep my fingers up to speed not to mention they are super fun to fly. I'm already on my 4th one. Fly it in an open field or in the house at first because it will lose itself.

Note to future readers: DO NOT update out of the box. You're far better off using the system and becoming accustom to how it all works. After all, they're not going to ship a aircraft/remote pair that doesn't work out of the box (after charging batteries).

Then later, upgrade the the firmware and if things go badly, you will be in a better position to know that because you're now at least somewhat familiar with how it works.

Eh?

Might have something to do with the weather and flying less, eh?

But I am watching where the huskies go.

Ciao!

The bad weather is why RealFlight Drone was created.  ;-)
Had Burnt Weenie Sandwiches for lunch today,
& I'm having Willie the Pimp over later enjoying Hot Rats for dinner... Haha

OP: Yeah, never update out of the box.

Wait a bit, figure out a few things, understand controls, get a basic understanding. Your Current firmware version is listed under About, in the Go app.
Go through out the whole app and see where all the controls and parameters are located, to familiarize yourself with it.

Actually, flying up higher above trees and houses is recommended. You have more open space and nothing to hit.

Hello,

A newbie here.  Just tried to upload the firmware required 11/29 to P3 Professional.  It began an alternating beeping about 25 minutes into it.  Then it beeped normally, so I assumed the update was completed, but when I checked the SD text message, this is what it showed:

This was my 3rd upgrade (about a week ago) and everything works perfectly! Today I flew as expected: 3,5 km (CE mode) away and 500m high! All the updates seem to be fine for my aircraft! I did my first upgrade the moment I bought my P3A and never had any issues at all!

For the record: I upgraded last week and had one test flight and it worked fine. I didn't get a chance to check out the new maps though (fellow enthusiast needed to talk, don't you know. forgetful about the times he's been interrupted while trying to get a flight in).

It didn't finish updating yet, as you see no Success or Failure.

Format the micro SD card and reload the proper firmware onto the card, start it over. ;-)

from experience you really need to pay attention to the led indicator on the gimbal.  It should flash between green and red during the update, and once its done you will get a solid green.  If you don't see it flash or not turning solid green and just stay in solid red then you are having problem.  So format the card and go to dji app to find out what version you have first then update the next newer firmware and DO NOT jump the gun and update the latest if your current firmware is a few firmware away.
