The main problem in using large tablets, like the Apple iPad Pro(9.7") or iPad air with Mavic's RC is that DJI GO 4 is locked in LANDSCAPE display mode. These tablets fit nicely inside the RC support arms but the display remains rotated 90 degrees because: DJI GO 4 is locked in LANDSCAPE display mode.
If DJI  would modify GO to include PORTRAIT mode display there will be no problem using these large tablets without any need of an adaptor.

Have you searched for any apps that might allow you to force portrait mode?

Maybe a large crystalsky monitor will solve this problem, but when are we going to hear any news about this.

The display orientation in DJI GO 4  is fixed by the software designer and so far as I know cannot be changed by the user.

I sent DJI a request to enable portrait mode through the feed back. If more people request it we may have a chance. I will with litchi developers to.

It's a bit more than just "enabling" portrait mode. There are numerous design and technical hurdles to overcome in order to have it support portrait mode. So if DJI wanted to do this there would be a little R&D involved. I'm fairly certain due to extremely low demand of this mode.. it's not going to happen.

Personally I will be happy with just a simple rotation of the screen. The 70% reduction in image size with respect to the landscape orientation will be equivalent to be using an iPad mini in landscape orientation.

Just bought an Ipad Mini 2 Cellular and the screen is more than big enough - much better that the small Samsung Galaxy S5 phone I used for the first week.

This is why I asked about if you looked for an app. Maybe Apple doesn't have anyone that made them for iOS but they definitely do for Android. It's a separate app that will force everything on your device to adhere to whatever orientation you want.

It's been suggested before and has not been implemented so I don't think it will happen.
To use larger devices, you need to purchase a device holder that many are already selling for the Mavic.

That is correct, it cannot be changed by just using the GO app.

That's correct, unless there's demand in the masses, they probably would not explore it.

I used my Samsung Galaxy S6, I switched to IOS and now use my iPhone 7 Plus and it works great. But I mostly use my iPad Mini 3 and it fits perfectly in the holder.

The idea was to avoid the tablet adaptors/holders with a software modification. BTW just founded that the portrait orientation suggestion has been discussed before in this forum, it makes interesting reading: http://forum.dji.com/thread-71759-1-1.html

Did you not see my post above? Does Apple not have any apps that do that? Seems like that fixes the exact problem you have.

Good thread, You can also search the Apple forum to see if there's an IOS app that would work with all apps but I'm not sure if there would be any conflict with the GO 4 app.

It would be a good thing to research to see if there's an IOS solution that would not cause any conflict with the GO app.

Just found that portrait was implemented in the latest version of DJI GO (v 3.1.0).
See http://www.mavic-guide.co.uk/dji-go-app-3-1-0-ios/ .

What’s New in Version 3.1.0
Mavic:
– Added landscape and portrait display switch in the DJI GO app, available when the screen is unlocked

I've tried to get a portrait oriented display but failed. Any suggestion Ken?

That's the standard GO app and can you refer me to a IOS webpage that lists the previous versions and details.

I don't have an Apple product so I can't search. I'm not talking about a DJI app, I'm talking about looking for a 3rd party app that will force everything on your iPad to stay in portrait position.

The Mavic update to the GO app is talking about portrait mode for the camera not the app. The Mavic can rotate its camera.

That looks very awkward how tall the whole thing is. Is it funky to hold?

No pretty good actually the bottom of the tablet is locked against my waist line so very confortable. The Only issue is the video transmission on this tablet the lag is pretty bad.

This line in the update is not talking about the orientation of your device in the app, it is talking about the orientation of the Mavics camera. The Mavic is the only drone that can switch its camera to Portrait. If it was about changing the orientation of the app then it would be listed under General for the update, not specifically for the Mavic.
