I updated the firmware on my phantom 3 standard.  I just purchased a spare battery.  Does the firmware on the new battery need updated and if so how do you do that?

Once the Phantom firmware has been updated all you have to do is insert any additional batteries and power on the Phantom.

A lot of rather insignificant things, aren't in the DJI  manual set, as we are expected to have some basic knowledge, when buying a higher end hobby grade drone. Many of the current Phantom owners have been buying DJI drones since the early beginnings. So, much of what newer pilots wish to read, in the PDF or online manuals, may have been omitted. Considered common knowledge.

If all pertinent topics and instructions had to be included in a constantly changing manual, it would be a phone book sized document. ;-)
The numerous RC forums and drone blogs are the best place to search for answers to get your questions replied to.
